Worried Dell Axim x30 and .pdb files

Hey all. First time here. I'm very glad there are sites like these to help people with tech issues! I am almost completely tech challenged, so bear with my dumb questions that may seem simple to you all.

I just bought a x30 from a friend. I am a nurse and would like to load some nursing software on it. I have a friend that gave me some nursing programs on a CD. All the files end in .pdb I have no idea how to get the files on the PDA or if they will even work. I have a Dell Insprion 1525 with Vista if that matters.

Can anyone help? I'm going to need very simple, step by step directions if someone is willing to take the time to help a noob!

Thanks in advance!

I always thought .pdb was for Palms. So there is no way you can load them. That's it!

Thanks for the response. So you're saying there is no way to convert them or make them work on my Axim? I can't believe there isn't some way they can be made to work.

.pdb usually means Palm Data Base.
Generally that won't be compatible with a Windows Mobile device.
You can get software that allows the use of some Palm software, but I don't remember any off the top of my head.
If you tell us the name of the program you want to use someone may be able to point you to a WM vesion or something similar.

As to how to get files onto your X30 you will need to download Windows Mobile Device Center and install it on your PC.
This is the software that allows your X30 and PC to talk to each other.

You might find this tutorial on installing software useful

Also this one, What can I do with my axim.

One thing to note, Windows Mobile Device Center is the Vista version of ActiveSync, so when you see references to AS it means in your case WMDC. The tutorials are a little old so some of the details may vary.

I have used this to convert pdb files with moderate success. However, it won't convert the software, just the various files of information. If you can get a reader to read the converted file, and if it's actually a file of text to read, that might work. As I said I only had moderate success because some pdb files are not text, but programs.
