Question Newbie question regarding Contacts Sync

Hi All:
Ok, I've got to admit I'm new to this. I just picked up a nice X51v and I'm just starting to use it. One thing I noticed today when trying to setup ActiveSync I can select Calender, E-mail, and Tasks but can't select Contacts or Calender or un-select Notes, Faverites Files, or Media. Why? Am I missing something. Can anyone point me a posting the shows me how? I picked this up used so I don't have all the manuals I need.

Do you have Microsoft Office Outlook installed?

Yes, but not setup. I don't use outlook except at work were I need to use a company installed VPN to log in. I am using the Axim for contacts memos notes right know. today is the first day of use. I want to be able to Sync all my data to my desktop at home. I have ActiveSync installed and it appears to be working correctly except I can't select those two items I most want to select and Un-select some other items.

Question

What exactly is ActiveSync? Yesterday was the first time I used my Axim and I was able to sync all but the contacts and calender. I can see the one note I saved yesterday on my computer desktop but when I try to access it, Microsoft word opens but I can't see the text in the file. I see it just fine on the Axim. I was under the impression that ActiveSync was like other PDA programs I've used were I can create contacts on my desktop and download them (sync) to my Axim. Am I incorrect? I wish I had the user manual. Can anyone offer some help?

First off I would read this excellent guide by Gigi and then the other Stickies in this forum.

That will give you a better understanding of what you can do.

As to not being able to change the sync settings, that may have to do with Outlook.
Outlook needs to be setup on your PC whether you use it for Email or not, it is the main program that ActiveSync connects with.

You will find the online user manual Here

I was having some trouble syncing my outlook items to my x51v, but realized that I wasn't using ActiveSync 4.5 Now I'm good.
