Question How do I put x5 back on x51v Axim

I have the backup from my Axim x5 (which had the screen broken on a tile floor) and am trying to restore it to my Axim x51v. The backup name has the same ending but the restore doesn't recognize it as an official backup.
Processor Type: Intel PXA270
Processor Speed: 624 MHz
ROM Version: A12(062000600)
My life was on the Axim x5...Please help...Dell tells me they won't help because I didn't buy it directly from them although they don't sell Axims anymore. The backup program on the Axim x51v is High Tech Computer Corp. Ver 3.10 (build 21796) copyright 2000-2005. I have also contacted them for help. Thank anyone who can help me, ever so much.

It's generally impossible to restore a back up from one operating system to another.

But someone may suggest a solution.

Haven't the foggiest.

You're talking about a system restore????

I don't think that's possible if you want to run the x5 environment on the x51v.

Back to square one... not sure.

The problem you have is that they are two different operating systems and you won't be able to use the restore file on the X51v.

You could borrow someones X5 and restore your contacts to that, then Sync it to your PC and then Sync the X51v to the PC, that would get you contacts back.

Or if you kept you X5 synced to your PC already you should just be able to sync the X51v and get you contacts back that way.

I guess I am up the creek without a paddle. I never set up the sync for one. Didn't work correctly with outlook so I didn't use it. Number two is that I put a pass code on the system and since the screen is broken it doesn't work. Please tell my you have some other idea. All my passwords for all my web sites was under my contacts along with all the people I need to contact.

You could try My Mobiler, but I doubt it, I think you would have a problem getting it to install.

And I'm not even sure if it will work with an X5.

I think you best option is to try to find someone with an X5 who will let you restore your file.

Even with a broken screen, you should still be able to create a syncing relationship between the X5 and your computer. If you can do that, then you should be able to sync your contacts to Outlook on the computer.

Also, as Box mentioned you should also be able to use My Mobiler to project the X5 screen to your computer and to manipulate the X5 from your computer keyboard and mouse. All you need to do is install My Mobiler to your computer, then connect your X5 to your computer and see if My Mobiler is able to connect to the X5 and project its screen to your computer screen.

If the device is so damaged that your computer does not recognize it, then you won't be able to use Activesync or My Mobiler. In that case, your only course of action is to find a friend who has an X5 or purchase a used X5 so you can restore the backup file to it. There is no way to restore the backup file taken from an X5 to your new device and there is no other way to get to the contents that are on the backup file.

I can't remember if you have to accept the installation on the Axim, if so that could cause a problem.

If it just installs itself it should work.

My mobiler is a lifesaver, only think that I can think of for the future is using sprite backup. I know you
re not supposed to do a backup from one rom version to another or even one device to another but it is an option on the backup preferences, for the sake of recovering data.

I personally have everything backed up on an external drive and on my desktop just in case...
