I think you best option is to try to find someone with an X5 who will let you restore your file.

Even with a broken screen, you should still be able to create a syncing relationship between the X5 and your computer. If you can do that, then you should be able to sync your contacts to Outlook on the computer.
Also, as Box mentioned you should also be able to use My Mobiler to project the X5 screen to your computer and to manipulate the X5 from your computer keyboard and mouse. All you need to do is install My Mobiler to your computer, then connect your X5 to your computer and see if My Mobiler is able to connect to the X5 and project its screen to your computer screen.
If the device is so damaged that your computer does not recognize it, then you won't be able to use Activesync or My Mobiler. In that case, your only course of action is to find a friend who has an X5 or purchase a used X5 so you can restore the backup file to it. There is no way to restore the backup file taken from an X5 to your new device and there is no other way to get to the contents that are on the backup file.
