ROM for X50(low)

Hi there,

Sorry if I post again something already answered elsewhere, but i haven't found the answer yet.
My question:
Are roms between x50 and x50v compatible? and between x50(low) and x50(mid)?
In the Dell site there is one download for x50. In some forums are downloads for x50(v) which I understand as compatible for both and in some forums some people broke their devices by just using mid for a low device. What is right?

Can someone help, please?

thanks

Hi,

ROMS designed for x50v will not work on x50 mid nor x50 low. You will likely brick your device you do attempt.

Most of Dell's stock ROMs are designed to work for both x50 mid and x50 low. If you find a ROM that is by a third-party developer (Someone other than Dell), be sure to check if it is for x50 mid or x50 low.

If you need any ROMs for Axim x50, just PM me. I will send you the link.

Thanks johnhu, that's a clear answer!

Do you know of any ROM for the x50(low) with WM6.x?
If been looking everywhere, without any success.

I am also very curious, how do the people create such ROMs? How are they able to replace a DLL, or delete an application, or add them... Where could I look for information about this? Can you recommend me any site?

I don't believe there are any WM6.1 for x50 (low).

Most ROM developers/cookers focus on the x51v first, as that is the "best" device out of the Axim series. Then the next devices are x50v, x51, and x50.

Each ROM takes considerable amount of time (Usually months) to be made. The original ROM was first made by Football because it was ported from some other device. Then ROM developers like Makuu, Lenny, Mag_Lite, and Steven use that as template to create their own "flavor" of ROM.

The Page Pool is edited by each ROM developer to suit their own taste and the trade-off between speed/simultaneous programs (Somewhat like RAM on PC) running is considered.

Then the XIP (Execute in Place) is created/modified.

After that, the image itself is tacked-onto the combo. With the image, the developer can choose to embed whatever program he wishes onto the ROM.

The ROM is then published in the form as .nb0

I know Steven and Makuu hang out in this forum. One of them may drop by and give their expert 2 cents. I am just a beginner at ROM creation.

XDA-Developers have some great threads to get you started. The sub-forum is crowded with other device ROMs, you are better off using the Search function on XDA.

PDA4x also has a great thread on modifying the XIP.

To create is ROM takes some work and patience. It also takes time and dedication (Or so I believe). If you choose to create a ROM for the Axim series, I shall be awaiting your results. :)

Thanks again John
The keyword is XIP: I have been googling xip and axim and I think there is enough information to keep me occupied for a while. It seems the process of creating roms is much more automatized than I thought.
