Finger Friendly x51v?

I have a little goal in mind. I want to make my Ax a mostly finger device. I've set some settings so that I don't need to use the stylus. I downloaded Nitrogen as it's good for non-stylus use. I have Opera 9.5 for the Diamond- it's kinetic scrolling feature is pretty cool.

The issue I have w/ the stylus is the horrible scratches it makes on the screen protectors. I take out my axim whenever I'm outside and the first thing I see is the scratches. They seem more obvious when I'm outside also! I'm thinking how the IPod touch has all finger developed programs and how much more attractive my screen would look if I adopted a similar configuration.

Anyone have any ideas for tweaking the axim for finger friendly interaction???

SPB Mobile Shell is very finger friendly and add the full screen keyboard and you've got a lot of it covered.

There are quite a few different shells/programs available that make everything easier without the stylus.
The problem is they are all pretty much personal taste.
Most have free trials so you can check a few out before you have to buy one.

Many of SBSH's programs are becoming finger-friendly.

If it is just the scratches that bother you, generally the marks made by regular stylus writing simply buff out if you have a soft cloth and wipe off a good quality screen saver.

UltimateLaunch is finger-friendly. And PocketInformant may be configured to be mostly finger-friendly. Bigger icons help, as does some unused space on each screen/tab (to provide an area for your finger that does not risk becoming a command to do something).

Hey Box,

Yeah ... I just loaded Mobile Shell onto my Samsung. Very nice. I'm going to use it for a few days just to make sure nothing major blows up with it and pay for it. Previously I was using Pocket Plus on my PPC's but decided it was time for an update. I was concerned the shell would eat too much memory on this box but it doesn't. It's quick and responsive. I still need the stylus, of course, but not as much for navigating around basic functionality, making calls etc. Looks promising.

I finally dumped my last "regular" PPC since the Samsung does it all. The shell puts a polish on the whole thing.

I have good and bad moments with SPB Mobile Shell. I eventually decided to uninstall it.

It consumed too much memory for 3D gaming. Then, it is slower in general actions (Menu popping-up, etc) than the plain-old Windows shell.

Thanks for the comments guys :)

I am wondering about a good onscreen keyboard also. I have an external keyboard but there may be a time when I don't have it handy.

Any thoughts on those? The last time I tried Spb it.... uh didn't really leave an impression on me. Don't get me wrong- I love Spb products but there's got to be a good onscreen keyboard if needed.

If you get the Resco Keyboard, look into the packages they have. I got Explorer & Registry, Photo Viewer, and Keyboard together when I bought it.

Resco Keyboard is what I've used for Axims, and has nice skinning capability. I also use Vito Technolgy/iWindowsMobile's Zoomboard on my X7501.

Morning Breley :)

I'm trying the Resco Keyboard now and it works pretty good. I think it's going to be a keeper for me.

Hmm ... well I'm not having any issues with speed here. The memory footprint is reasonable - after a soft boot the device still has about 28M free program memory (after the shell loads). The main thing I like is how it allows you to concentrate your most-used functionality together. Doesn't interfere with any of the few games I play either. Think I'll probably keep it.

There are a number of skins available, too. Be certain to get the VGA versions for the X51V. There are not as many VGA as there are QVGA, but still quite a few VGA. You can customize how it looks under Start/Settings/Personal/Input and then selecting Resco Keyboard under the Input Method drop-down and choosing Options.
