Besides my X50v I also have an old Casio Cassiopeia and there were all sorts of unofficial OSs that you could install ontoit (most better than the one it came with).
Are there any Non Microsoft OS’s that can be installed and give good performance on an X50v?

There is Linux for the Axim series. Here is a page about it. But as you can see, it have very limited capabilities compared to the Windows Mobile platform.

So it is best to stick to WinMo...

The problem with alternative operating systems is that there is very little mobile software you can get that runs under alternative operating systems. Sticking with windows mobile operating system provides the greatest variety of software to run under it.
