Not new, but newish...

I recently resurrected my Axim X50v from the dead, and have upgraded it to Windows Mobile 6.1 Lennysh ROM A09.

Some of my current software:

TCPMP - For movies (Works GREAT!)
S2P - A iPod type music player (Works decent)
Opera Mobile Beta (Works, but SLOWER THEN MOLASSES!)
Palringo - for Instant Messaging (Works well)

At any rate, the device could use some speeding up, and I was wondering if there were any tricks that could be given for speeding up the system. (Like being able to alot more memory for programs and less for storage, as I don't store anything on the onboard memory.)

Are there any worthwhile games to purchase that run well, etc? Any programs to assist with keeping my X50v in tip top shape?

Thanks for all your help!

A few things you can do to make the x50v a better device.

1. MemMaid/ SKtools. It is all personal choice. I believe SKTools has a rather steep learning curve. MemMaid does not have as much "power" though.

2. If you want to spend the money, PPC Techs have a 64MB to 128MB RAM upgrade. Here is is.

As of games:
Call of Duty 2 for PPC
Infinite Dreams (They have some nice games)
SPB's Brain Evolution
Handago's Game Page

I remember back in Mobile 2003, I was able to move a slider that would alot more memory for storage or for programs, it looks like this feature is lost in 6.1, is there some way to change that? Like I said, I don't store ANY programs in the onboard memory, everything is installed on my SD card. (Also, is the SD card or the CF card a faster read?)

Memory is automatically allocated, so there is no need for the slider.

So you can't take away storage memory to give to running programs? UGH! Soo much storage memory, and NOTHING to do with it. :(

When you start a program, the OS will move the boundary, so all of that free memory is available at all times to any program you want.

So you have EVERYTHING to do with it, not nothing.

Okay, been tooling around with my Axim, but I still don't get it. I'm running Windows Mobile 6.1 Classic, Build 19949.1.2.0 LennySh. But the system seems slow and laggy. Even Internet Explorer is slow.

Some loaded programs (all on SD Card):
Opera Mobile
Palringo
S2P
TCPMP

Not sure why the system is so unresponsive.... Is there anything i can do to speed it up?

Thanks again for hte help, I wish I understood the OS better!

You are using an awfully old version of a ROM that was built as a product of Lenny and Football's collaboration...

The newest ROM by him is his L14 ROM. If you don't like the WM6.5 honeycomb structure, you can always use L11 or L12. L11 has been the most stable build so far.

If you need help flashing, I would be glad to help you out.

You might want to uninstall Slide 2 Play (S2P) before reflashing. That might be the problem with the unresponsiveness.

Just curious, will this work on an X50v? I see it is posted under the X51v forums.

EDIT:

If I remove Slide 2 Play, is their a better music player?

I think the highest rom for the x50v is A09, I don't think he's made a 6.5 L14 rom for it yet. There's L12, but it's the same beta he made for the x51v users (which isnt a "real" complete 6.5). The actual main reason I upgraded to an x51v from an x50v was because of the rom releases, and the way the x51v handles memory. Do not flash the L14 it is made only for the x51v.

As for your list of programs it looks good, I prefer pocket player but it is a paid program, Nitrogen player is good, GSPlayer is also great. An older version of aim works pretty well, and tcmcp .81, and opera mini are pretty quick.

Doh! My fault, I was not reading carefully. KimChee is right, I thought you have a x51v.

Well, after reading all of this, I'll have to just kick it with Windows 6 Classic... I'll just keep the programs to the minimal, and keep things alive until a new rom is out....
