Trouble with Active Sync

I am having a horrible time connecting my axim x51 to the computer. When I first got it, it worked just fine. Now the device says it is connected but the computer says it isn't. I finally got it to start to sync tonight after I had reformatted my hard drive and re-installed windows xp (I had Vista and it was slowing down my computer too much so I put xp back on). I have actually caused the cradle to become loose trying to get the device to sync. I am having to use a direct sync usb cable rather than the cradle to try to sync now because the cradle is too loose to accommodate the device. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am ready to pull my hair out over this. I also had a pair of scissors fall onto the screen point first and now there are some pixels that are running black across the screen. Is this something I will need to have a new screen for? Are they easy to replace? Help!!!

First - Welcome to Mobilitysite. Lots of good info and ppl here.

Second - If you can sync via a usb cable you probably have a bad cradle. This is not uncommon. Also, if your screen is scratched you may need to replace it. Here's a link describing how to take your AX apart. You'll have to decide if you can do it.
