PC crashes when x50v cradle connected

I'm using Windows Mobile 2003 with my recently acquired x50v and have just downloaded and installed Microsoft ActiveSync v4.5 onto my PC (Win XP Pro), apparently successfully (in that there were apparently no issues setting up files to synchronise).

Following that, I installed TomTom Navigator 5 onto my SD card with maps I desired.

Then, when I plugged the cradle into the USB port of my PC, the PC crashes (this happens even if the PDA is not in the cradle).

I find it difficult to believe that the cradle can be faulty, but understand that there have been issues with Active Sync in the past (?)

Any ideas, anyone, please?

Did you check the Event Viewer on your PC?

And by crash, is it totally unresponsive? Does task manager start up?

Event viewer...

..showed no problems, as far as I can tell.

Task Manager does appear, but I can't move the mouse to select anything. (Is this a 'hang'?)

I've just uninstalled ActiveSync, and still the problem persists when I plug the cradle into my PC via the USB connection, although I haven't yet tried it after a re-boot.

This does not occur when I use it with my laptop, so I assume the cradle is OK.

Thanks for your response.
