Question Can’t download anything larger than 20MB

I can’t download (from the internet) anything larger than 20MB with Opera mobile, or PIE.

I have 881 mb free on the CF card, And a full 1GB free on the SD card, and it says it’s full (after 20MB), when I save to them.

I’m using WM2003-SE, on an X50v.

is there anyway to fix this?

thanks. :)

There is a limit on how many files can be in the root folder. It's a function of the directory. I think it's in the order of 256, but that's a dim memory. In any event, if you have anywhere near that many files the download process may be creating interim files of fragments of your big file and then assembling them into one big file at the end. In that process you could be hitting the limit, in which case you the the Card Full message. It's not the card, it's the directory.

If you have that many files, move some to folders to reduce the clutter in the root of the card, then try again.

The root folder of the card? The SD card only has 5 things on it.

How about the root folder of the device?

No I only have 2 files and 16 folders. I don't install anything off of a card if I can help it.

Did you try clearing the cache for PIE and Opera?

What version of Opera are you using? If you can hook that Axim up to a computer. Explore your folder that Opera is stored in.

-Make sure Opera is closed on your Axim.

-Create a folder on your storage card where the cache files will go.* I chose \Storage Card\Program Files\Opera\cache4, but I don't think the folder structure or folder name matter.

-Open \Application Data\Opera\opera.ini in a text editor.

-In the [User Prefs] section, add the following line: Cache Directory4=[full path to folder on storage card].

-Save and close opera.ini.

-Restart Opera. Your cache is now being written to your storage card."

I hope this works for you! It was a solution I found for that exact same problem for Opera 8.65. Don't know if the more recent versions will work with this.

Let us know how it goes!

That makes sense both Opera and IE aren’t installed on a card.

I did that and it’s caching things there now, I haven’t been able to test it with actual downloading yet, I haven’t been able to get to a hotspot.

I think that should work.

I did mean the root folder of the card. Same applies to the root folder of the device, too. And AFAIK to any MS root folder, it's in the fundamentals for the operating system.
