axim x30 (high I think)

Hi,

I've just purchased an x30 (with wifi) but without set up discs and manual.

I haven't succeed in getting it connected to the computer; I suspect I need those discs and the manual would certainly be handy.

Can anyone help me with these bits, possibly from a broken machine?

Im happy to pay.

tia

This is one place you can download the manual from.

As for connecting to your computer you need ActiveSync if you have XP and Windows Mobile Device Center if you have Vista.
Both free to download from Here.

Thanks a lot for the swift response.

I just down loaded the ActiveSync prog.

This message came up

"Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request. Run MS Office Outlook and set as default mail client"

Surely I don't have to run "Office" on my PC for the PDA?

Thanks again.

David

ActiveSync, being a Microsft product, is designed to work with MS Outlook.
If you want to sync email and contacts you basically need to have outlook.
You can still sync files and load programs etc without having outlook.
You need to set the Sync setting in AS not to sync email and contacts, if that's the way you want to go.

There are other programs that you can use to Sync your email and contacts but I have never used them.
One that springs to mind is Finchsync, but I can offer no advice on how that works.

Is Office Outlook standard requirement for PDAs?

This one won't let me sync files without Otlook by the way.

There is some thing weird going on here.

It shouldn't be any whaere near this difficult.

I was half expecting a task wizard to get me connected in 1/2 hour max.

Last night I did get the pda to connect to an extent with my lap top.

(Not meaning any rudeness)the links you gave me for activesync and the manual I had actually tried previously.

Under "setting up" it says"when you have set up....."which wasn't that helpful!

I'm just left curius to know whether if I bought a new machine it would be any more successful.

I can only assume the thing to do is to read the system requirements on the side of the box.

May be the router I amusing has confused the issue!

Any way thanks for taking the time for replying(and swiftly!). It was an interetsing experiment. !

I'll wait and see now if putting office on this machine does any thing.

Using a router is a different thing.

ActiveSync connects via usb or BT or Infrared.

only an old version of AS works with Wifi, AS 3.8 or less I think.

Gigi's guide "What can I do with my Axim" might help explain a few things.

Perhaps if you could give us a little more detail on what you are trying to do, how you are doing it and what problems you are getting, we might be able to offer a little more advice.

Generally, the X30 will work straight out of the box.
However, there can be problems with ActiveSync.
Are you trying to connect via USB?
Is the X30 Used, and if so have you done a Hard Reset to remove the previous owners settings?
Is ActiveSync not connecting or is it not letting you sync?
Do you have a Firewall that could be causing problems?
Do you have Antivirus software that could be causing problems?
Are you using a main USB port or a Hub?
Are you trying to connect Via Wifi?
Have you unticked the Sync Email, Contacts and Tasks in the settings of ActiveSync?
Have you rebooted your computer since installing ActiveSync?
Have you done a Soft Reset on the X30?

Answers to these and many other questions would help see what your problem is.

Thanks for going to this effort.

I did eventually get AS 3.8 on this machine. Got it working to an extent. Its still asking for MS office though. (I have ordered a copy of 2000, not 2003, si It amy not work that well). The pc is "seeing" the dell now which it wasn't before.

I've got a little further with the wifi, though it is asking for "number" that should be dialed??

What number does it want with broad band and a router?

Thanks again.

David

ps I gather this is the server phone number.
