ActiveSync - instant sync bad

Forgive me for posting this here, but I couldn't get an answer on the ActiveSync forum:

Update to below - it only seems to do this when I am editting an EXCEL file, not WORD.

Pardon me if this is something I should know how to do---
Windows XP Pro SP3
ActiveSync 4.5 (Build 5096)
Newly set up AXIM X50v (first one I've owned).
I've been using ActiveSync 3.8 (Build 5004) with an AXIM X5 for several years. Just got the X50v and downloaded 4.5.

Set it up to Sync several files. When editting an EXCEL file on the PC (haven't tried any other type) AS tries to sync immediately (while editting). The sync seems to work, but when I save and close the file this results in an 'Unresolved' sync every time. I have to go to AS and tell it to resolve the sync. AS thinks the file has been changed on both devices and asks me which one to replace.

How do I make AS wait until the file is closed. I seem to remember a setting in 3.8 that would sync ONLY when the AXIM was first connected and after that only when I told it to, but cannot seem to find it in 4.5.

Any assistance appreciated.

Roy

I don't sync files, so have never experienced what you've described,. But as a short term solution, can you not just uncheck the syncing of files in AS and then recheck it when you're ready to sync?

Guess I could, but that's about as much trouble as resolving the item(s).

Thanks, tho

Open AS and click on Options. Select the Sync Options Tab and uncheck the box for files. I only sync my calendar and contacts. Just remember, if you update a file on your PC that also resides on the AX, you'll need to copy it over after you save the changes. :exc:

I had this problem with Word documents awhile back.

I finally managed to downgrade back to WM2003. The problem went away. Now AS (still the new version) acts properly and doesn't sync EXCEL files until they are saved. I no longer get the error mentioned at the top.
