Guys I need help. A couple of wacky things I just can't seem to resolve.
1. Activesnyc. I sync with my desktop Outlook 2000 mail stuff. Calendar, Inbox, etc. Everything syncs OK with no unresolved issues, but my inbox messages sometimes only capture the message header not the body of the message and these indicate a zero (0) file size on the Axim. Why doesn't the message text get transferred?
2. I want to capture attachments in their entirety and save them to my SD card. I'm not trying to sync to my ATTBI mail server just with what is already in my local Outlook inbox. I can't figure out how to select the SD card as the save location.
3. My screen goes to minimum brightness after 30 seconds of no activity. I have to tap the screen or push the navigation button to get the brightness back to my default setting. My power controls are set for 15 minutes when on battery, but that doesn't have any effect on this dimming thing.

For the easy one, there are settings in both "Power" and "Brightness" to control the system. Check all of them to see what's turning it off.
Start, Settings, System, Power, Control ... and System, Brightness, Battery Power.

Thanks so much. One down.
It wasn't really obvious how to get to the brightness control settings but I'm so happy to have this irritation solved.

As far as not loading the text of messages, I remember reading about this somewhere ... don't laugh ... I think it's a feature. The idea is to check the headers and then just download only the non-junk mail. Since I don't use email on the X, I'm not too familiar with the details.

Mail....
In active sync double click the inbox icon in the bottom part of the window. An options screen should pop up....and I think it will answer your questions.
Behold the great and powerful OZ....

These are the settings I have and I get complete messages on my Axim.
1) On your PC, go to ActiveSync and right-click on Inbox, choose Settings ...
2) To download the entire message, uncheck the "To save space, copy at most" box.
3) To download attachments, check the "Include file attachments" box and uncheck the "Limit attachment size to" box.

Thanks for the help. No more 30 second screen dimming and I'm capturing attachments OK. It would appear from searching the WEB that saving attachments to the SD Card is not an option when using ActiveSync. I've got a suspicion that a registry hack might force it however.
Even with the settings you've suggested, I still get some short text email that only transfers the header and not the body of text when I activesync. Very strange!
Anyone seen this with other sync programs?
Best Regards

Doh!
Finally figured this inbox nonsense out. It's evidently related to the fact I have a POP3 service with ATTBI, not an MS Exchange account. Instead of using ActiveSync to duplicate what's in my Outlook 2000 inbox, which never did work right, I needed to set up a POP3 service on the Axim and tell it to download entire emails which on test successfully includes attachments and no limit to the number of lines of body text with emails I sent to myself. This is important because the default on setting up this type of account is to capture only the message headers. You have to select "entire message" during the option part of the setup.
In other words for activesync, I do not include the Outlook inbox, just the other stuff I want like calendar, tasks, etc. They sync up fine.
When I want my email I don't worry about Outlook or ActiveSync, I just select my new pop3 service and when I connect via the internet with one button click at the bottom of the inbox screen, all my messages get delivered to the PDA. Interestingly, they show up even before the same messages are received by Outlook 2000. I don't really pretend to understand this, it just works!
I guess I'd better go to my ATTBI account and tell it to save my messages on their server though, so if I check mail in Outlook first, I'll also receive those messages on the Axim when I use this new service connection.
Saving attachments to the SD Card isn't still a done deal yet, but I can cut and paste those from the Built In Storage for now or better yet open them and save to the SD Card.
This should be easier, but what would life be without challenges.
Happy Aximing

A little follow up. Telling the mail server to retain sent mail is actually an option in Outlook. It works fine. Even if I read my mail in outlook before making the internet connection on my Axim, the server does retain them and they load up on the PDA as well.
This is a potential problem in that ATT only allows 10 MB of storage. To compensate for that, I opted in Outlook to tell the server to delete my messages on the server when I delete them locally. I'll just have to be disciplined enough to clear out the Deleted Folder regularly.
Using Save As for the downloaded attachments works fine and allows you to store them on the SD Card and they open up just fine.
Whew. This work around stuff should not be necessary. Hopefully the next version of ActiveSync will address these issues.

Alert5,
I'm not sure what you did wrong. I've got ATTBI. I have outlook 2000 set up to read the mail. It deletes it from the server when it downloads to outlook, which is fine. I sync via active sync and have had no problems. See my other post regarding accessing remotely.

I hear you, but I beat my brains out and Outlook messages kept getting lopped off to the header only and I couldn't get file attachments using activesync. I'm sure its something I screwed up and maybe some registry values are in my system that I created inadvertantly.
I'm particularly interested in saving attachments directly to my SD Card, not the built in storage, but after one time seeing that as an option in ActiveSync on the PC desktop, I've never seen that option again.
It would be helpful if you could list your precise settings, both for activesync and internet connection service if you have that set up as well.
ActiveSync 3.6
Win XP Pro
Outlook 2000
Thanks
