X3 or X5

Hi

The X3 has just become available in the UK, and it's now thrown me into doubt. The X3 Standard is cheaper than the X5 Basic I was planning to buy. I now don't know which to get. I'm going to use it for mp3 and video, with some games playing. Shall I get the X3?

It's a personal thing on which model you'd be happy with BUT, if I had the choice between the X3 Basic and the X5 Basic, I'd probably go with the X5; mainly for the dual CF and SD slot.
It seems as if you would be limiting yourself with what you could do with the Axim if you got an X3 Basic. But, like I said, it's a personal thing.

As stated previously it's mostly personal preference. If your mainly goind to use it for mp3 & video I would say go with the x5, mainly becauseof the cf slot. Right now you can get a 512 mb cf card for ~$80 vs the same size card in sd is around $200.

The x3 has a brighter screen and better graphics engine/hardware for games/video(though I haven't had any problems with games or video on my x5).

The x5 is nice because you can use a cf wifi card & a sd memory card at the same time. where the x3 you would need to switch the cards or find a combo (memory & wifi) card. So if you want a lot of memory and cost is an options the x5 would probably be better for you.

Other then the cf slot they are both pretty close in features. The x3 is smaller and has a smaller battery, but because of the different hardware it seems the battery life is about the same between the x5 & x3. The x3 is smaller and lighter but doesn't look as good IMHO.

I'm not really that bothered about the looks (although the X5 is nice), but the main problem i'm having in deciding between the 2 is if i am going to need two slots or not .

I don't really earn much money, so cheaper memory would be nice, however the difference in a 128MB CF and SD card is only £5. I don't need wi-fi, bluetooth or GPS for at least a year (probably get a new one by then). The device's main use will be video, and seeing as the processor is better for video in the X3, so i'm tending towards that.

I'm just struggling to decide if better performance or more expandability is my chief concern.

One question though, are SDIO accessories more expensive than CF equivalents?

Yes, but I think that's mostly because there are not many sdio accessories on the market, yet. They may always be a little more expensive because of the smaller size, but I expect prices will come down substantially as more manufacturers start releasing equipment.

If you are ONLY looking to use the PPC for Music, Videos and games, I would definately direct you to the X3. Newer processor and better video is definately what you need for those tasks. I need my AX for school, so I have to use the X5 but if you're planning on getting a new PPC later anyway, go with the X3 for now.

I think i'm going for the X3 then. I will be using it in school, but not for heavy stuff, just occasional note taking and planning.

Thanks for everyone's help.
