I've had a Handera 330 for about 3 years now, and have been very happy with the quality and loudness of it's speaker.

To confirm, I don't use my Handera at all for music or voice playback (although it will record and play the latter).

I'm planning on ordering a 400 Mhz X5 next week, and have read a few posts about questionable speaker quality. I don't plan on playing much music or voice, but need the speaker to be clear and loud so that I can hear my alarms. Will that be an issue? Since my hearing isn't the greatest, that's a definite must! I can hear my Handera's speaker clearly from across the room. The X5 needs to work the same way.

Also, my employer is a Lotus Notes shop, and we deploy Intellisync for handhelds (primarily palms). The PC's are locked down administratively, so it's very difficult to install any other software. Will the X5 work OK with Intellisync? Any minimum version that I need?

BTW, this is an outstanding site!! <_<

Thanks!

The speaker is OK, but I wouldn't use it to listen to music or voice. For alarms it should be load enough, but I haven't really tried to see if it would wake me up. :D

The recorder in the axim is horrible. It about the worst sounding quality I've ever heard in a handheld.

Lotus Notes is a tough one, but here are some threads where people have had the same problem. I've been lucky enought to move from Notes to exchange before I got my Axim, so anything I could add would be about Palm. <_<

You also have the ability to copy wav files to the window directory to make them available to your alarm functions. Loud, long, blaring wav files. Create voice reminders if you have a mic hooked up to your PC, using Sound Recorder in Accessories, Entertainment

There are a few Lotus Notes Solutions -

First - EasySync by IBM Lotus - http://www.lotus.com/products/easysyncpro.nsf

Next there is Cadenza mNotes 2.5 - http://www.commontime.com/

Some use Intellisync - http://www.pumatech.com/

Then there is Avantgo's Pylon - http://avantgo.com/products/businesses/wor...ylon/index.html

Pylon comes in two versions, one that is just the conduit and the full version. The conduit allows syncing of all the standard stuff. The full version, allows you to pull down other Notes Databases to your PDA and access that data and sync back.

The final solution is a corporate wide solution - Domino Everyplace - http://www.lotus.com/products/wireless.nsf

With this you can access your Lotus Notes on any Mobile or Wireless device that has connectivity. If you work for a good size company that has plenty of Mobile and Wireless devices, I would push your IT team to look into this.

I myself am going to be getting an Axim with my Tax return money, good luck!

I almost offered Pylon, but wasn't sure since it was bought by Avantgo which was bought by Sybase. :P

Being on ccMail and Notes all my professional life, it was quite a shock moving to Exchange. I never though I'd say this, but I miss Lotus Notes.

BTW, cool resume using Lotus products. :D

Thanks!

Yeah, there are some things people don't like about Lotus Notes, but then again, I have yet to receive any email viruses in a Lotus Notes envirnoment.

Not to mention the incredible workflow applications that you can make.

The only thing I wish they had right now was a client for PDAs for Sametime standard, so you wouldn't have to upgrade to Sametime everyplace.

Though, by far, the Domino Everyplace is the best solution. The developer's kit for it is nice. That is one of my next projects is to begin to develop Notes Apps integrated with Websphere for PDAs.

I don't use sound recording, but I have heard that the recording quality when using the Notes Recorder icon on the screen is much better than just pushing the recording button on the side. For Antonin, can anyone confirm that?

B) Thanks guys!

I'm going to check into Intellisync this morning, since that's the software that we use corporately. I think it makes sense to upgrade it to the latest version.

And, my Axiom order will go in today. :D
