Does the standard USB sync cable that comes with the Axim charge the battery while its connected?

The USB cable will charge your Axim. There is a thread here that gives all the details, but generally speaking, the USB connection if a lower voltage than the standard charger and does not charge as efficiently. If you are using the Axim, it may not charge. If the battery is too low, it may not charge.

If the Axim is turned off, it will charge.

Check the bottom of this page for similar threads. They will have more details.

Good luck

I was under the impression that the Dell Sync cable does not charge via the USB port, that you had to purchase a 3rd party cable to do this.

The warnings stated above do apply to the 3rd party sync/charge cables.

I can confirm that for an X5, the device will charge through the sync cable if it's turned off, but other's milage (and usb power output) may vary.

either way it's pretty slow and you're better off charging with the power cable or the cradle.

Atually I can confirm this as well for the X3i. Today I discovered that when it is off, it charges and I was really suprised since I'm lacking an AC adapter for the cradle (and I'm currently searching for one). As said above, it is very slow and I will still try to get an adapter to have the cradle charge whyle the Axim is turned on.
