When you restore, ALL your old settings are reinstated.
One thing to note here ... I renamed my X to MCPPC because I don't care for "My ..." anything. After a hard reset, or pulling a new unit from the box, it will be named the default MyPocketPC or whatever. This avoids the possibility of the unit trying to sync up under the previous name. The ID you changed to with the first unit will be restored in the restore process. It just reverts to the original partnership (maybe you do a soft reset along there somewhere, I forget).
I mean, I had a question about how the restore facility dealt with memory cards, so I did a couple backup/restore operations just to test it. Other than taking hours, where you can't touch anything, it's pretty painless.
I really don't know what happens if you sync a just-reset unit and it sees a sync folder of that same name. I believe another user said it wouldn't even allow him to use the original name because it was already in use. Having a different name to start with gets around all that.
All you'd have to do is rename the replacement unit, sync as guest and then restore. The original name should be returned now, so after a soft reset and re-dock, it will be the original unit again down to the last bit.
If anyone else can clarify or correct anything about this, feel free to jump in. I didn't write this software, but I think this is how it works (from memory). Everyone should test the restore facility before it's an emergency, just to see how it works.
