I tried making connections to my local dial-up ISP and got mired in dialing codes and such. Here's what I need to do, would appreciate any and all help.

1. Delete all the connections I tried to make.

2. Make two connections to the same ISP for internet purposes
A. Need a local connection for when I'm home (no dialing one (#1) and the area code)
B. Need a connection for when I'm traveling (will need the 1 and the area code)

3. Need to be able to send and receive without syncing it to my laptop. Will I get that function to automatically send once I'm connected to the internet? Right now it goes directly to the active sync services menu and tells me it will send upon the next sync.

More questions later, I'm sure, but answers to this one will keep me busy for a while (hoping to get my modem today and I want to be prepared!)

Thanks,
Donna

To delete connections that you made go in to Connection Manager (Start, Settings, Connections, Connections), tap Modify on the Internet connections section then tap and hold on the connection that you want to delete and tap Delete.

If you want the Pocket PC to connect to the same phone number, you only need to make one modem connection. The dialing of 1 and area code is controlled via the Dialing Locations. First make the connection. Next tap the Dialing Locations tab. For the Home location, enter your area code at home. Do the same for Work. The Home location is configured by default to only dial the seven digit number for calls to the same area code, which are local calls. 1 plus area code is dialed when the area code of the connection is different than the Home area code.

If you create a modem connection that has a different area code than your Home area code, and you keep the dialing location at Home, then the Pocket PC will dial 1 plus area code when using that modem connection. This would be the approach you want to take if the connection you use when traveling has a different area code.

If you are traveling and you want to use the same phone number as when you are home, you want to switch the dialing location to something other than Home. If you are at a location that requires you to dial-9 to get an external line (like at hotels or offices) you can use the Work location as it is configured. Otherwise, you can create a new dialing location, and call it Travel. (Tap New on the Dialing Locations tab, enter the name and an area code.) Tap Dialing Patterns and in the local calls and long distance call fields enter 1FG, which means when you make such a call it will dial 1 plus area code, plus the seven digit number. Tap OK. You will then need to switch to the Travel dialing location whenever you are away from home and want to establish a connection.
