Hey guys wats up! Im a total new comer to the whole pda world. I never owned or operated one before but after some careful research i decided to go with a dell axim. I just have a couple of questions and hope u guys can clear some stuff up. I purchased the 400mhz with wi/fi card. What are the musts i should purchase (extra memory spare battery)? How much memory do i need? Are there any must have programs? I was wondering with the wi/fi card if i could recieve instant messages? Is the wi/fi difficult to set up because i heard dell support is a nightmare. Thanks guys this site is awesome! any advice would be greatly appreciated and any added info that i may have not asked for, for i know nothing about the pda world lol

Thanks

John

Extra Memory, the Secure Digital type since you are using the CF slot for Wireless. You can never have enough memory to put mp3, games, and videos on.

Then if you plan on being online with the Wireless for long periods of time, the extra big battery (since wireless drains the battery pretty quickly)

The first thing I purchased was some screen protectors, I chose WriteShield because everyone seems to think they are the best, but there are others out there. If you go through

pocketpcpassion.com you can get 10% off the WriteShields.

Memory - that will depend on how you will use the Axim. As a rule more memory is better, however SD and CF prices continue to drop, so I go with a reasonably priced card. I just picked up a 256MB SD card from Amazon. I already have a 64MB, 128MB, 8MB that I use for my digicam. There is a forum in here that people will post good deals on memory, check that out.

As far as I know, if you have the Wi-Fi card and are in an area where you can connect to the internet, you should be able to get IM's.

I'm still trying to decide on the extra battery myself, I plan on using mine at work, so I will be able to charge it everyday, I'm not sure an extra battery is necessary. you could always get it later.

If you just oredered you Axim you still have some time :( I still don't have mine. Do some research, and you should be fine. Enjoy!

For software heres my lift for most useful:

1) RESCO file explorer, this is too mch better then teh default then I can describe right now
2) Pocket Facelift, lets you control all aspects of your pocket pc's UI
3) Battery Bar 2003, see how much space is left on your battery adn all your memory.

if you do a serch you'll find similar threads with lists like the ones above with links to them all but I've done it so many times I'm too lazy to do it again.

:P
