Problems setting up wireless card for axim X51

I purchased a Spectec SDW-820 WLAN 802.11 card for my axim X51. I was going through the tutorial sticky on how to set up a home WiFi network on this site, but I am having a few issues. I can't seem to find the Dell WLAN utility icon on my device. I was trying to get all of the settings right before I attempted to connect wirelessly. I used the cd to install the drivers from the manufacturer. When I insert the wireless card, the device immediately recognizes wireless networks in the area to conect to. I didn't want to get ahead of myself, and just start clicking things without knowing what I was doing. Am I missing something?

The Dell WLAN utility is only on devices with built-in WiFi. The Spectec probably installed it's own utility. I'm not familiar with that brand but it's utility will probably be similar to the Dell's.

Oh, I see what you are saying. I was going step by step through the tutorial thinking that it was specific to my device. When I wasn't able to find the icon listed in my device, I thought I had done something wrong or was looking in the wrong place. I will tinker with it when I have a little more time and try to get it set up correctly. Thank you for the response, Ike.

Well, somehow I have managed to mess things up. I went from having my axim recognizing wireless signals in the neighborhood (I never actually connected), to not having the axim even acknowledge that the wireless card is even inserted. I'm not sure if I disabled a setting, or something along those lines. I never saw any program installed on the axim even though the card seemed to be working initially. I decided to go into my laptop and uninstall the programs and drivers that came with the wireless card, and just start over. I was prompted to connect the axim during the uninstall to remove programs. Now, I have another problem. My laptop doesn't recognize that the axim is connected to it. I tried connecting it directly to the USB, and with the cradle. Neither shows that there is a connection. I am truly lost. I have no idea what I did to cause this. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I was able to get the wireless up and running, and I'm proud to say...I am sending this message wirelessly via my axim!
