ActiveSynch

Just took delivery of my Ax. I thought I had everything set up and running smoothly yesterday. Place it in the cradle and it synchs with my outlook express emails automatically.

I come in today and Activesynch wont let me set up a partnership with the Ax - "This device name already in use. You must enter a different name for your mobile device." and wants me to put in a new name every time I connect. This is ridiculous.

At this (work) computer, I am running Windows 2000.

What did I do wrong?

Try deleting the partnership and then trying again. To do this, open up ActiveSync on your desktop WITHOUT your Axim in the cradle, then File --> Delete Partnership. Then put your Axim on the cradle and then re-establish the partnership.

BTW, you mentioned you are syncing with Outlook Express? Do you mean Outlook?

Looks like it worked. I hope I don't have to go through this every day - I tweak which folders I want to synch when I set up a partnership.

Oops, correct, I meant outlook. I use OE at home, which has it's own set of problems.

Thanks for your help and quick reply.

After the partnership is set up, you shouldn't have to touch it, which makes me wonder why you were trying to set up a partnership after one was set up in your first sync.. Just place the Ax in the cradle and if your options are correctly set (notice I didn't say anything about partnership) then the sync should happen.

Anyone know why my Ax just gets disconnected from the home puter for no reason? It's more of a nuisance than a real problem though. I pull it out of the cradle and drop it back in and it's good to go again. I'm just wondering why it drops the synch?

Open Activesync on your axim
Tools>Options>Schedule
Uncheck everything.
This solved the problem on my X5.

I have had an ActiveSync problem for a wee while now. It started the first time I tried restoring my Axim data from a backup created using the Axim's backup facility. After that I was unable to synchronise with my Inbox. I could live with that. However, after a forced hard reset, and a subsequent restore from a backup, I have been unable to get any synchronisation at all with my PC. It seems to start synchronising, then I get the synchronisation error and then Not Connected. I have tried all of the above. Any other ideas before I completely uninstall all of the Axim stuff from my PC and re-install from scratch?

Is there an "_"(underscore in your pocket pc name? Eliminate it and try it again.

Nope, no underscores in the name.......I've managed to do some back up by connecting as a guest, but it isn't ideal.
I think I'm going to have to uninstall everything and re-install...bummer.

Deleting the partnerships worked, and the problem has reappeared only once since then. When it does happen, a/s pops up the screen asking if I want to set up a partnership or guest, automatically.

I do have a _ in the name, so that my be the problem. If it crops up again, I'll try changing the name.

Following my problem syncing - I uninstalled and re-installed Activesync - still didnae work! So, in desperation I tried another hard reset. Worked like a dream!!!!!!!!!
And, by the way, the activesync automatically put an undersore into the name - it's called Pocket_PC, and um urny gonnae change it (for the non-Glaswegians that translates to - I am not going to change it). Yahoo.
