Downloading Pics from CF Card thru Axim

Ok, I'm stumped.

I just bought a Nikon Coolpix 3100, partly because it has a CF card that I can use on my Axim, in addition to the SD card I already have on it. I tried to download the images from the card through my axim and MS ActiveSync. At home (using a USB connection) it seemed to work pretty well, although it was a bit slow (it took about 30 seconds per picture). The next day I tried to do the same thing (with the same pics) at work (using a serial connection) and it took easily about 10x the amount of time.

Can anyone explain why. ActiveSync seems to be working fine. At home I have Windows Me and at work I have Windows XP.

Also, does anyone have the same camera? I find the Nikon View software a bit cumbersome. I'd prefer to just download using windows explorer and then use the image editing/viewing software that I'm used to (Adobe Photoshop / Irfan View, respectively).

Serial connection os only 115kbs. USB is 12Mbs. Do the math. USB is faster than serial. Do yourself a favor and get a USB card reader.

A USB card reader is definitely the way to go. They are not expensive and you will be glad to have it! You can send your photos easily to Photoshop from the card reader.

Also, you can view your photos directly from the CF card on your Axim with photo viewing software which is readily available. If you have WM 2003, the picture viewer included is simple to use and works very well for display of your photos.
