Trouble with Excel spreadsheet

I have an Excel spreadsheet program that we use @ work that is about 12.5M. It uses a number of worksheets and equations. I tried to transfer it to my Axim X5 but it did not transfer OK and does not work.

Do I need some sort of program or SDK to modify this spreadsheet to work on my Axim? It would probably be better to modify the size of the screens to work better on the Axim.

I am not sure that I really understand your post. No desktop programs will run on any PDA - they use a completely different operating system.

ActiveSync will transfer Excel files to work on Pocket Excel by converting them to *.PXL files, but Pocket Excel is a very cut down version of Excel 97 or 2000 and is very restricted.

If you want to do serious spreadsheet work on your Axim, use SpreadCE from byedesign.freeserve.co.uk. This will do everything that Excel 2000 will do and even has a few functions that Excel does not have. It will read and write true *.xls files to and from your PC. It is riduculously cheap ay $20.00

You understood my problem quite well.

I have tried SpreadCE (shareware version) but it didn't seem to do the trick. Do I need to get the "real" version or am I doing something wrong?

Note: I just put my *.xls file in the Pocket_PC My Documents folder, ran ActiveSync, then tried to open the transferred file with SpreadCE. With Pocket Excel, the file didn't even xfer over. With SpreadCE, it did, but the functionality was obviously not near what the original was.

Does SpreadCE just work on the PDA side or do I need to fiddle with the *.xls file on the PC side (with SpreadCE) to get it to work?

Thanks.

There is no difference between the shareware and the registered versions of SpreadCE.

SpreadCE comes with about 18 help files. It is well worth while printing these out as they then form a very comprehensive User Manual, which should help to solve your problems (I hope).

When you download SpreadCE you also get Spread32 which you can install on your desktop. It is almost identical to Excel 2000 which I currently use. Both will handle the same *.xls files without any modification or fiddling.

I hope that this helps. It is well worth persevering and getting to know SpreadCE as it can do anything that you can do on your desktop.

Thanks for your help.

I will take another long look at SpreadCE. It really sounds like it is the answer I'm looking for.

Take care.
