Concerning your question on "pointing it to a user profile", I don't think you will have to do anything. Each of you should be able to sync after logging on to your respective accounts. Outlook will simply load the PST file for the person that is logged on.
As far as installing Activesync on each profile, that's a good point. I have a WinXP machine with separate logons for me and my wife (both are set up as admins). I installed Activesync under my profile for use with my Axim. I have never checked to see if Activesync loads when she logs on (she does not use a PPC), but I don't think that it does.
If it does not, you may not have to install again, but simply copy the Activesync shortcut from the Startup menu of one profile, to the Startup menu of the other. Just make sure you have different names for your Axims and Activesync will sync each PPC separately. I know this will work because I can still sync my iPAQ (for sale by the way!) and my Axim on the same machine with no confusion on Activesync's part.
You can always download the latest version of Activesync, install it, and see how it operates. Then you will be ready to go when your Axims arrive.
