Yes, in windows media player click tools->settings->buttons. Then you need to select volume up from the list, it will then say "press hardware button" or something to that effect and press the scroll up. Then do the same process for volume down. Be aware that this also maps the up/down on the d-pad to volume up/down as well.
I just did the steps described above and it's working perfectly on my Ax.
