@ questions from new user?

Hi all;

This is my first post on this board. I used the information from this board as part of my decision on buying a new Axim x3. I got it in the mail the other day, but I can not use it until Christmas per my wife , she has already wrapped it. I have been using a palm m100, so this is quite an upgrade for me. My questions are this:

1. If I want to play a movie trailer on my axim, if I download it on my PC and its in a Windows media player format do I have to do any thing else besides download it to my axim? Do you have to convert it to a pocket pc format, or down size it os something?

2. I am going to want to put a few pictures of my kids on my axim to show people at work. What is invloved in getting a digital picture from my camera and pc to my axim x3?

Thanks for any help you might be able to give. I can not wait till x-mas so that I can get my hands on this little jewel. I am sure that I might have some more questions later after I get to use it.

Happy Holidays to all.

Chris Chandler

Hi! Unless u have a big cf or sd card u won't be able to fit a movi trailer on you axim. But you can get whole films on if you have it cut down to a small size. If your digital camera has cf or sd then you can put it in your axim and open them from there. It pretty much just drag and drop!

Hope this helps.

1. I you want to load a movie trailer onto your Axim, you have to first convert the video file to a WMV file. This can easily be done with Windows Movie Maker (which can be downloaded for free anywhere). When you are using that, you can even specify the video quality and size, wich can compress the file. Another option is just leaving it as an mpeg file and play it with a video player that supports that file type (like Pocket TV). Then you can simply syncronize your Axim with your desktop and load it onto your axim. :)

2. Are the pictures in a digital format? If so, you can 1. load them onto your computer, suncronize the data, and put it on your axim or you can 2. simply put the SD card that the data is saved on into the axim and save it to another folder (assuming that the pictures are saved onto an SD card). If the pictures are not in digital format, you have to first scan the pictures and then repeat the above steps.

Hope that helps! -Iceman-

Thanks this helps. I think that I will download the Mpeg program. I bought a 128 SD card is this enough for a trailer? Also My camera uses a CF card, I thought that it would just slide into my axim, but it is much bigger than the SD card slot. I guess I will need to just donload the pictures from my camera to my pc and then syn it to my axim is that right. All this may make better since when I actually get to have hands on with the device. Most of the trailers that I watch are mpeg format any way. I use quick time most of the time to watch them. Will the trailer look good on my axim? Me and a friend at work are big into going and watching movies. we are always saying did you see the trailer for this and that. It will be cool to take it and show him.... Man I can not wait till christmas. I feel like a kid again. lol :)

For your Digital Still pix, get a multi-card reader. ActivSync takes way too long.

Most of them are USB and once installed on your PC, they are used just like anyother Disk Drive when a card is in it's respective slot. Prices range from Free (w/rebates) to $20 @ WalMart to $60 at Speciality stores. They're all pretty much the same, just look for a good deal.

Take the CF card out of the camera and the SD card out of the Axim, put them in the reader and transfer from one to the other as simple as drag & drop....much, much, faster than any other process.

You can transfer ANY type of file this way, so your Multi-Mb .mpegs and .wmvs will go much faster, as well.

Yes 128 mb should be large enough. If you compress the file to a 320 x 240 resolution, you should be able to put at least a half hour long video on there... I think

*Comes Back*

I was able to compress a 47 MB music video to 5.38 MB. The sound quality is negatively effected by this, but the video quality is perfect. It is fit exactly to take up fullscreen on a pocket PC. :)

Thanks for all the info.... So after I get pocket tv on my axim, all I have to do then is say go to apple movie trailers, and pick one out and download it to my pc... then sync it to my axim? How do I convert the image down to the 320x240 size? Does the pocket tv compress the mpeg or how do I do that? Sorry for the lack of knowledge here.
