What is the difference between SanDisk and Secure Card?

I am very new to the whole PPC - PDA world, I see you guys talking about SanDisk cards (which I think I have one for my JVC digital camcorder) and Secure card. What is the difference? One type seems to be more expensive then the other. Why?

Sandisk is just a brand that manufactures various types of storage media.

SecureDigital (SD) is a type of solid-state memory card that's the size of a postage stamp.

Cheers.

And there is another card type, the "CF" or "Compact Flash" card, which can be any number of things, including additional storage, wireless communication, modem, etc. You can read more about CF at http://www.compactflash.org/faqs/faq...haracteristics

For the AXIM, the "SD" slot can accept only "SD" cards -- which means you will want to use the SD slot for additional storage. The "CF" slot can be used for any number of things, depending on your use of the AXIM PocketPC. You could use CF for additional storage, but many opt to use it for other functionality.

I think a big selling point for the AXIM is the inclusion of both the SD and the CF slot at a reasonable price point - it provides the end user with quite a bit of flexibility and portability. (Other PDA-type devices require ad-ons to take advantage of both card types, or if they have both, said devices are much more expensive.) It's also why I purchased the AXIM - absent this functionality, I'd probably be purchasing an ultrathin laptop.

Agreed, one of the main selling points for me was the secure and cf slots on the Axim. I pretty much use the secure for my tunes and use the cf for storage or other type cards like wireless and such. I do like the size of the sd more and more though, and the prices are about the same around here for cf or sd.

Just to add to the confusion a bit here -- the "SD" slot can also accept "MMC" cards, which is slightly thinner than SD-cards, and is a tad slower and does not have the manual write-protect.

Cheers.
