E-bay rip-off

Well i though i would be smart and bid for an Dell Axium X5 on UK's e-bay site.
I won,
My package included Axium X5 300 mhz basic
Rickaline GPS-6021-X6 (CF)
256 Mb SD card
Car mount
TOMTOM city maps
All for £299.00
After following the quick users guide (In english) I unpacked and left it to charge..
I between I thought I would read up the users guide, But the user guide was in Spanish... What's this .. I powered up the Dell I am confronted by Spanish text, even the Active sync disk is in Spanish
My e-bay seller has gone quiet and not responding to e-mails.

Can I change the Windows pocket PC (2003) o/s to English ?
Is there anything I can do ?

Thanks in Advance
Vince

Ok, here is what you can try. Click the top left of the Today screen, it is called Start in English. Then you want to tap on Settings, it will be the third up from the bottom of the menu. Then there will be three tabs at the bottom of the screen. You will want to tap on the middle one, it is System in English. Then tap on the picture of the earth, it is Regional Settings in English. Then at the top of the screen is a drop down menu. Go through it until you find Englais or something like that, meaning English of course. I hope that works. I have never changed the regional settings, so I don't know exactly how it works.

Let eBay know. I'm not quite sure what they could do, but it's worth a try.

The base language is set in the chip, I believe. That's why you can't do an English OS upgrade on a German Axim, (for example).

Best bet would be to go through eBay, particularly if the item did not specify that it was a Spanish Unit. Can you give us the link so we can read it?

Dell won't be able to help you, other than offering to sell you a new unit.

Give the seller nagative feedback immediately and buy the ppc 2003 version from microsoft or some site like that. I think that should work, but Im not sure.

If you purchased it with a CREDIT card (emphasis on the credit, debit won't work probably), if all else fails you can negotiate a refund through the credit card company. They offer protection against such things as these, and if you are returning a product for a legitimate reason and the seller won't comply, a credit card company will have the leverage and legal skills to get your money back. In fact, they typically just buy the product back from you, and make it their own problem.

As for the spanish problem... how much stuff on the Axim is really unreadable due to the spanish? Sure, some menus might be confusing, but you could always look at the bright side of things... this might actually be a good learning experience. What spanish student wouldn't be motivated to learn spanish all the more if that was the only way to read their PPC menus?:p

Go through all the proper ebay channels of filing a complaint etc first, If you have the address of the seller and he's not to far away go and see him. I think you might be able to get the phone number of ebay to. Ive you can contact him maybe negotiate a deal to have a refund for the price of WM2003.

Big Smile

Good News, It was a Genuine error by DELL. They have shipped out 30 or so Spanish Axim to UK customers.
They are going to replace my Axim with an English o/s. and give me a pack of 3 stylus for my troubles (Does that mean the supplied stylus breaks easily)
I very impressed with Dell Customer support !
I look forward to any more warranty issues.
Thanks to all those who posted info for me

Spanish.. That was messed up! :)

Does anyone else besides me have the feeling that Dell has been taking things kinda slappy since the beginning of 2003 ???

I recently got Inspiron 600m, and it feels like it is gonna fall apart..... :?

That is so cool that Dell took care of that problem for you. On the styli issue, they dont break really. They have a plastic tip and all it takes is a good drop and a nick on the tip and you wont want to run that across your digitizer would you?

I've had my Dell now for 13 months and I'm on my second stylus. The first one bit the dust from a drop.

Naw.......probably just means that that's the cheapest way they can placate you "for you troubles".

To be honest with you, I probably have only used my stylus 4 times in a year. They're just too small for my big, meaty hands!
