Can't explore with Activesync - Help needed please

Hi everyone

When I try to explore my pocket PC with activesync, it fails & I have the following message "Failed to start Remote Service, try resetting ......" or similar (translation from the French error message). All other functions work perfectly : backup/restore, sync with outlook, upgrade from PPC2002 to PPC 2003 and vice versa ...

I'm using AS 3.7.1, I have WinXP pro on my PC & PPC2003 on my PPC (Dell Axim5). I'm using the WinXP Firewall

I've read a lot on this subject without finding the solution so far. Since I use the XP firewall I have open 990, 999, 5678 & 5679 TCP/IP ports (AS would need that ?) but it does not work. I switched off the firewall but it still does not work. I've done soft/hard resets of the PPC, install/uninstall AS, used AS 3.7 ... it does not work !!

Any hint please ? If not, is there an alternative software to drag & drop files between PC & PPC (with the relevant conversion) ?

Many thanks in advance for your help

Rgds

Welcome to Aximsite Jean-Patrick and congratulations on your perfect English !

Yes. dotPocket will transfer folders or files from your Axim to your PC and vice-versa. I am not absolutely sure about the relevant conversion though. It is obtainable from Aximsite.com>Frontpage>33% off dotPocket for US$20.00 instead of the regular $30.00. It will do a lot more for you too - like screen rotation, altering screen resolution and remote control of your Axim from your PC.

I cannot begin to explain your ActiveSync>Explore problem - maybe someone else can. I have had a lot of problems with earlier versions of ActiveSync (none with 3.7.1 though) but I have never had your Explore problem. I can only suggest the you try MicroSoft Technical Support.

Thanks Davrol

I have downloaded dotpocket (trial version) and it's working fine. But I would rather have activesync working ...

dotPocket have now reduced their price still further for Aximsite members. It is now $15.00 instead of $20.00

Order from www.dotpocket.com/aximorder.html

I am also haveing problems exploring with AS, unable to access the device without getting a critical comm. error. Can not get to AX files through xp explorer or through my computer

Also with the AS window open "connected and sync'd" with the green circle showing when I click on File, mobile device and delete partnership is grayed out.

Thanks for any help on this matter

Afternoon, Bearcat
How's the fishing?
I had this problem a couple of month ago. I'm not sure if it was a ROM patch from Dell or the upgrade to AS3.7.1 that cracked it.
Couple of things worth looking at:
1. If you're running a SD card, try taking it out and trying to Explore without it. It may be a 'read-speed' issue as reported on some makes of card.
2. Check you have the latest version of AS. It's not necessarily 3.7.1! There was an update a week or so ago with the same version number. Check on Windows Mobile site, the key is the release date of the upgrade!
3. (Deperation!) Check that you have all the relevant upgrade patches from Dell.
Out of ideas then, Buddy.

Jogga:

Fishing is still a little slow here in E. Central IL. Will be going to KY Monday for some Crappie fishing. Wish I had GPS for my AX so I can mark the good fishing spots. Guess I'll have to be satisfied with my eTrex for now.

Thanks for you response regarding AS. I went to the Dell site entered my ser. tag selected all downloads for xp and all I got was a driver for Bluetooth.

I have, for now, solved my problem. I have a firewall running at all times, I shut it off and I know can view all files on my ax including on the SD & CF cards in addition to drag/drop to them. Before I was trying to drag/drop to the folders that AS used to sync files. Also I found that the AX has to be removed from the cradle for mobile device under File to show up. I am very happy again :D since it APPEARS to be working right, even though I can not bet 3.7.1 to work on my desk top, but that's no big deal.

Thanks again for your time replying on this matter.
