Here's the main differences I know of that would influence my decision (these points may or may not be relevant to you):

X3i - built in wireless, smaller, extra 32MB built-in-storage, one-touch voice memo recording
2210 - CF slot, built-in bluetooth

The X3i doesn't have a CF slot, only an SDIO slot. While most hardware is available in both formats, complex CF devices are cheaper and more readily available (i.e. wireless cards, GPS devices). I don't care much about bluetooth, I am a wireless kinda guy... but if I ever want bluetooth capability (i.e. to hook up a GPS without cables coming out of the bottom of the unit) I can get a bluetooth SDIO card easily enough for around $50US on e-bay.

There are many other differences, and many informative reviews on the web. Do Google searches for 2210 reviews and X3i reviews, and make your decision from what you find in these writeups.

If the price is the same then the 2210 has more expandability. The CF slot will allow you to have both a memory storage and anther working card or two working memory storage cards. Only issue is wireless access. And I don't use wireless so I discount that.

I like the X5. HP is just way too expensive (although I'm not sure what the 2210 is going for).
I prefer having the CF and SD that the X5 offers over the SD only for the X3.
I'd get the X5 or wait for the X3 or whatever is next, to have both slots again.

The iPaq 2210 has higher build quality and higher quality, I also think HP's Support is a lot better than Dell's. It also has a 400MHZ CPU instead of 300MHZ, and more RAM than the basic model, it also has a CF slot.

Looking at the prices that ChAoZ can get the x3 basic for or the 2210, the better value would be the 2210. Don't get me wrong I like the Axim but you have to look at everything that the 2210 is offering versus the x3 basic.

1. The 2210 is running at 400MHz versus 300MHz on the x3 basic.
2. The 2210 offers both SD and CF slots.
3. The 2210 has CIR (consumer IR) with integrated Nevo software that can virtually control any device (TVs, DVDs, etc) from a distance of 15 to 18 feet.
4. The 2210 does not have integrated WiFi but it has integrated BT. For the price of a WiFi card the investment would be worth it (you'll see in a minute).
5. Greater expansion on the 2210 than the x3 basic.
6. Great software bundled with the 2210 on the companion CD outside of the apps already in rom:
Adobe PDF Viewer
iPresentation Mobile Client
Peacemaker Pro
Pocket Watch
Margi Presenter-to-go
Westtek ClearVue Suite
Afaria Management
7. CF devices are generally cheaper than SDIO devices. There are also more CF devices available than SDIO devices. Depending on the usage there could be some $$ savings for peripherals.

Check how much of the warranty is left on the 2210. If there's not much then you should probably consider the x3. HP does have a very good replacement policy if something happens though, I personally experienced it back when I had the Jornada 520. Dell has a good policy on paper, but from what I hear it's somewhat difficult to deal with them.
Any particular reason you're not considering the x5?

the X3 basic simply cannot compete with the 2210--except in terms of screen quality.

Um why did you pay $265 for the X3 basic? The base price is $229 max! ....I assume you mean the X3 advanced, then, no wifi.

This changes things. The X3 advanced has the same speed processor, twice as much built-in storage, and better graphics capability. It also has a better screen as with all the X3s, though the 2210's should be perfectly sufficient.

Summary...
X3 Advanced pro's:
1. Double BIS
2. Brighter and more vivid screen
3. Jog dial
4. Better graphics

2210 Pro's:
1. Slightly smaller
2. Dual expansion slots
3. Much longer battery life
4. Built-in bluetooth

IMO the X3i is the only X3 worth its $$$; it's nice to have the smaller form factor, but HP did that with its 1940, 2210, and 4150 lines, and a one-slot device better have a lot of features to make up for lack of an extra slot or built-in wifi. I don't think the X3 non-wifi models do this sufficiently. It is a beautiful machine (I am writing this post from an X3i right now) but Dell's price point was too high for the lower models in my opinion.

2210.
