I saved most of my stuff on a sd card- today I deleted something I should have not deleted on my sd card -is there a way to retrieve this file or is it lost for ever. How can you save to PC from sd card so I can have a backup?

Unless you have previously backed it up, it is pretty much loss.

However, you can copy and paste an image of your SD card to your PC to back it up, or you can use Sprite Backup Premium Edition to backup your memory cards.
