... I among them. Sprite backup saved my ax last weekend. I bought it just after Christmas, and, after messing with it for a couple of days, set up scheduled nightly backups. Well, on 02 January 2004 I had an unscheduled hard reset. Why? Well, I'm still trying to figure that out. But instead of losing everything and having to post a panicked plea for help here, I calmly (ha!) ran the executable backup that Sprite had made on 01 January 2004 and, less than half an hour after the hard reset, I was back to where I had been. I lost 20 minutes worth of work instead of months worth. It was simple, easy, and, best of all, I get to gloat about my preparedness instead of complain about my loss.
You hope you never have to use your backups for real, but boy is it sweet when a potential disaster turns out to be not really much of anything. Sprite Backup rules.
exactly why I am after something better than what comes with Active sync. Mine also crashed on me and I lost about a months worth of work, that was before I was using any backup at all.
Now my question, will Sprite Backup work when I update to WM2003 or am I just stuck with having to reinstall all my programs and data.

I use Sprite Pocket Backup Plus with 2003 and it has worked flawlessly. So you shouldn't have any problems unless you are backing up anything that is very specifically 2002 and not compatible with 2003 but that situation should only affect specific versions of software like Dotpocket etc. Otherwise just use Sprite to create a backup .exe file and save it where you like; after losing everything once I now save one in two separate locations - a bit paranoid I know but it was a real pain re-installing everything and replacing lost work:)
Anyway have a look at the Sprite site and if there is a trial version give it a whirl; I did alot of reading on various softwares for the ppc including backup and this is the one that is consistently recommended and the one I would advocate using.
Another vote for Sprite Pocket Backup Plus. Had it installed when I converted to 2003 and had no issues. While ActiveSync could not restore after the conversion to 2003, Sprite did (after giving me a warning message). Sprite can backup and restore individual files, groups of files or everything on the PPC to the PC. Selection of files very similar to PC backup applications. Excellent program - saved me on several occasions.
I am trying a trial of the sprite program now and I really like the schedualling of back ups. I can use the built in back up program for testing out new software and the schedualed back up for the real work.
I like the icons in the today screen too but the CPU usage icon doesnt seem to work. Is it just a gimic? I run realone player in background, plus pocket IE and MSN messnger and it doesnt show any usage?

This is Pocket Mon. I think it is the best of all the Battery/Memory Today Screen plug ins which I have tried - BattMemTime, Battery Bar and Battery Pack.
The CPU usage Icon works fine for me. I have heard that others have had trouble with it - don't know why or how to fix. Suggest trying uninstall, soft reset and reinstall.

I didn't have a problem with PPC2002, but there's an issue with the CPU usage and WM2003, Sprite is aware of it.
Un-installing and re-installing doesn't help, I tried that already. But I mainly bought the program for the backup features after recommendations from several forum members here. It's a purchase I'll never regret, saved me several times from disaster and I do a backup before I install any new software.
Alastair >> I been backing data for school through four methods. My Zip disk, PNC 256mb thumbdrive, laptop and website. After having coded a lab in C++ and just saving it on the Zip disk and having that disk go bad before I could sumbit the lab I now backup this way for everthing.

Yea, I have purchased it already. I see the great value in the schedulaing back up option. The CPU usage thing would be a neat lil gadgit but not important. I do hope they fix it though.
I just purchased Sprite Backup Premium Edition and like that you can schedule the backup to be performed automatically. The interface could stand some work but overall worth the money.
