Hello All,

I am wondering if it is possible to attach a serial device to the Axim?

The device is a Altimeter http://www.perfectflite.com/MAWD.html that connects to a PC/host via a serial connection via it's 9 pin serial kit http://www.perfectflite.com/DT2PM.html

Forget about the software side, I can reprogram it etc, it's all about the hardware connection.

Does the Axim support serial devices or can you connect via a serial CF card?

Socket makes a serial I/O CF Card that should work. It's a bit expensive. Most of us are waiting for someone to make a serial cable for the Axim. Several rumors are floating that Dell, Gomadic, SupplyNet and others are working on it and expect to have something in January. That solution will probably be a lot cheaper, and will leave the CF slot open for other uses.

Thanks for that JakeRich,

I hope someone comes up with a solution, it's a damm pity that dell did not provide a serial connection.

Also, what is the website for Socket?

Cheers

Also please note, Dell continues to insist that they will be releasing a Serial connection soon (instead of the USB you currently have) but they can't say exactly when. Hopefully this will help in the future, but the only current solution is the previously mentioned CF->serial route.

I also talked with a Belkin rep and she indicated that their timeframe for a serial connection was this month. She provided a disclaimer that the date "could shift", but that was the data the sales department had at the time. Belkin seems to supply a lot of the general handheld accessories listed on the Dell site and seemed a logical point to direct the accessory questions (Dell sales rep I spoke with barely knew his own name).

Hope this helps!
