Is active sync 3.6 a must upgrade?
I haven't upgraded active sync from 3.5, and would like input as to any user problems or issues with the upgrade, or a noticable improvement from 3.5-3.6.
I have win98se on laptop if that is relevant here.
Also I have an off topic question, I have an avatar that I used on the old site that was animated after I resized and uploaded, however it is still here! Any help here is greatly appreciated, it is driving me crazy :rolling:
Thanks all!

I haven't upgraded to 3.6 because (1) 3.5 is working fine for me, and (2) there doesn't seem to be any noticable difference between the two from the conversations I have watched. Supposedly there are some "behind the scenes" improvements ...

I upgraded to 3.6 just because, and had no trouble. I think that if you have AS running, you'll be OK with the upgrade. My understanding is that the major improvement is for people using Exchange.

Being impatient, I've downloaded and installed 3.6 already, even though my Axim's still in the queue.

The safe bet is to just go with what Dell provides. If Dell releases 3.6, then it might be an upgrade you might want to do. The Axim was tested with 3.5 so I would assume there would be less issues with it than 3.6.

I downloaded ActiveSync 3.6 from the Microsoft website, but when i went to install it, it said that i already had version 3.6 on my computer and if I wanted to reinstall. This is funny because the only version that i have, and i checked, on my computer is 3.5. This tells me that there isn't much difference between the two versions.

There is a link on Microsofts site that downloads version 3.5 instead of 3.6. You just need to find the right one. I wouldn't bother with 3.6, there is nothing in it that improves on 3.5.

Thanks for all the input, and since I don't see a difference according to the replys I'll stick with 3.5 for now.
Checking the Dell site is a good idea though as when they have it up they will at least support it, that is if I chose to go there...the help is really better here on this site:D

If it ain't broke...! And, never download a Windows Update patch until it has been available for at least 2 weeks, preferably longer!

Dell won't post updates to Activesync, it's a M$ product. You'll have to get the update from M$.
There are some bug fixes in 3.6 that supposedly improve the reliablity of the connections. If you aren't having problems, you probably don't need it.

The main reason for the release of 3.6 was to support the Smartphone - they also fixed some other connectivity issues while they were at it. See http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/foru...pic.php?t=3499 for further info...

I downloaded 3.6 and it trashed my outlook sync. Went back to 3.5 and all is well. Unless it is a security update I always let microsoft updates go a few months before I use them. I got bit one time to often with their OS patches.:D
