Worried Media video files help please

Hi, great site.
Here is the deal: I have a X5 and am trying to play two video files on it. I place it on my CF card, but it says it will not play the movies. Size is not the problem. One is a Windows Media Player format, the other is Quicktime. Now I have played numerous videos in the past, it is just these two that are acting up. Any suggestions? :rolling:

The Windows Media files should play fine with WMP on the PPC. As far as the Quicktime file, I don't know of any player available that will play quicktime files on the PPC, AFAIK.....

Transferring AVI files over to ppc2003

Hi D/FW

I'm having the same problem. My digital camera does short videos in AVI extension (media player video).

My desktop Media player plays the videos fine. When I try to copy to ppc it is giving me an error (not a compatible file).

If you find the solution I'd be interested as well.

Convert to MPG.

Inorder to play any AVI videos, you gotta convert it. I recommend converting it to MPG through TMPGenc (you gotta download the Pocket pc templates inorder to do this), then you download Pocket TV for Pocket Pc (Free Software) then just transfer the fille to the PPC. HOpe this helps

As an alternative I'd recommend Windows Media Encoder. Use the input file (.avi or .mpg) as the source and use one of the encoder's pre-defined settings for the PocketPC. The end result is a .wmv file that is usually much smaller than the original files and playable on windows media player.

Works GREAT for the small videos I capture with my digital camera.

PPC 2002 has WMP 8 on it. If you are trying to play a file that was encoded with the WM 9 codec than it won't play on WMP on PPC 2002. If you are running WM2003 than you have WMP 9 so you should be able to play WM 8 and 9 files.

windows media encoder did it!

Harley-

You made my day. I've tried numerous apps to get this to work. Even purchased the Pocket QuickView (didn't work).

Your experience certainly helped me on this one (and the app was free). The process is actually pretty straight forward as well.

Thank you,

Bob

Some extra information to give you guidelines on running the encoder with Pocket PC video profiles is on the M$ site :
