Hmm password and lockout behaviour

Just bought a Dell Axim X5 and have been working with it quite well.

My kids got a hold of it this weekend and tried to get past the password screen. I guess they input wrong passwords many many many times.

It looked like they locked up the system. I could not get back in even after several soft resets.

After a reset the password screen would start and the keyboard would allow me to input the correct password but it would not allow me to enter.
It remained stuck on the password/login screen.

I finally ended up doing a hard reset.

Does any one know the actual behaviour of the PPC 2003 security. I have tried to find the info in the help, the manual, the microsoft sites and even dell support and other internet sites. There doesn't seem to be ANY place where the actual security and password system behavious is described.

I mean did I need to do a hard reset. Or should I have just turned the thing off and waited for 5/10/15/30/60 minutes etc.

Any help would be appreciated

Cheers

My understanding is that each time you input a wrong password, it takes the PPC longer to accept the next try. I don’t know the actual progression of time (it may be a doubling or even a exponential progression) but you may have been able to wait. I suspect each time you soft reset instead of waiting for the response may have extended the wait time as well.

As I understand it you are partly correct. I don't believe there is a set time you have to wait. I belive the more times you enter the incorect password, the longer you have to wait.
