(Restore option?) I am in Pre-shipping status)

While I am waiting on my Axim to arrive I am pondering the pitfalls I experienced with my first Palm. This led me to wonder if there is a restore option (some may call it a reset) so that when, not if, but when I screw up my Axim I can just return it to fresh out of the box state. I know myself, I know I will get excited and find some lame game or app out there on the net and slap in on the Axim and crash the whole thing. Knowing this about myself helps me prepare for the inevidable...so, is there a reset / restore / forgiveness button or option?

Also, I've recieved also lots of advise to follow the directions and charge for 4 hours as recommend prior to begining my quest from Palm to Axim. So, I've been thinking of what I'll do during that 4 hours...so far here is my list:
Read Manual (not likely)
Make animals out of ballons (somewhat likely)
Clean my office (highly unlikely)
Order stuff I don't need off internet (quite likely)
Leave for the rest of the day and let it charge overnight (likely)
Head down to the local haunt and throw back a few (not likely)
Clean out my car (never going to happen)

Looking for other ideas...

I'm still waiting for my Axim, but I believe if you do a hard reset, you will be left with the Axim in its original state.

As for reading the manual, you could actually do that before you get the unit - you can download it off Dell's website.

Big Smile Fantastic Idea!

Actually not a bad idea, pre-read the manual ... well after a bit of hunting I did manage to find and save the 162 page .pdf file from Dell's site...I tried to attach to this post but I see here that pdf is not a valid extension....at any rate, I've got it might actually print it out and take it to the porch for a few....

Cheers,
C

Answered myself...that happens a lot

Found this on the handy aximsite.com FAQ section:

What is the difference between a hard and a soft reset?
A Hard and Soft reset perform two VERY different actions.

A Hard reset reverts your Pocket PC back to its factory defaults. Any settings that you may have made, any programs you have installed and any contacts/tasks/notes, that you have not synced will be lost. You should only have to do this if you install programs you shouldn't have, changed a registry setting incorrectly, deleted a key file or other drastic action. A hard reset is about the same as putting a product recovery CD-Rom in your desktop. A hard reset is acomplised by holding down the reset button on the left side of the Axim with your stylus while holding down the power button at the top center of the screen for at least 2 seconds. You should see the "Welcome" application run and ask you to set up your Pocket PC for the first time if you correctly performed the Hard reset.

A Soft reset is a "reboot" to the Pocket PC 2002 OS. If it is running slow, programs seem to be crashing, or any other weird activity, you should perform a Soft reset. This is acomplished by holding down the reset button an the left side of the Axim with your stylus for about 2 seconds. When you let go, the Axim will reboot back to the Today screen.

Look in your owners manual for more hints and pictures.
