How to automatically sync? -- ActiveSync 3.71

I have to break down and finally post a question!

I just got an Axim X3i and I'm using ActiveSync 3.7.1 with Outlook 2002.

When I cradle the Axim the sync process takes place, but if there have been changes made on the Axim, the ActiveSync icon will turn yellow in the System Tray and the Information Type will then show "xx Not synchronized".

I then have to right-click on the item and select "Synchronize selection". It doesn't even give you the option of seeing what you are potentially synchronizing.

This behaviour does not seem to occur when the change was made on the PC.

I remember using the Palm OS, HotSync was actually smart enough to merge the changes. If the item was changed on both the PC and the handheld, you could choose which item you wanted to keep at the next sync.

I would like to know how to get ActiveSync to automatically make the change without having to right-click on each item, since it's kind of tedious if you've made changes to many categories of items.

Thanks in advance!

There is a setting that is in ActiveSync OPTIONS that allows you to SYNC Continuously. I believe this is what you want to have selected.

Thanks Blatty!

"Sync Continuously" is the default option. I remember changing it because it annoyed me since it was "always" running whenever the Axim was docked.

It's kind of unobvious isn't it? The option is in the *Schedule* section!

Activesync always checks for changes, displays the number of items not synchronized and then, after a short pause of 5 seconds or so, proceeds to sync the changes.

If there are conflicting changes between the pc and axim, it will then have an exclamation point over the icon so you can manually resolve them. That behavior can be changed in the activesync options.

OK, it seems to work the way I want now.

I have the Schedule set to synchronize "Continuously" and the conflict resolution set to "Leave the item unresolved".

Doing this allows me to:

-Have changes synchronized automatically without manual intervention

-Be prompted in case there are conflicts. If there are conflicts, you can choose to resolve them in the same way as I would on a Palm device

The only thing I'm not crazy about -- and this is just a weird personal preference -- is that the sync starts automatically after a change has been made. I would prefer to be able to control when the sync takes place.
