Calendar entries change time when changing timezones

Greetings Axers,

Do you know if there is a sensible solution to that problem where you make an appointment in your calendar for say 9am, then travel to a different timezone and the 9am appointment changes with the new timezone.

Say, for example, right now I'm in ... hmmmm ... Iran (really - I am). My friend Dave is getting married in Melbourne in a few months time at 5pm. I put his wedding in my calendar for 5pm, but when I get home and change back to Melbourne time message warning me that "appointment times will shift to match the new timezone".

Now here is the problem: I want my PDA to show the correct local time when I'm travelling. I also want to enter appointments into my calendar without having to calculate what time it will be in Iran when it's 5pm in Melbourne. That's what computers are for!

It seems to me that appointments need to have radio buttons that say:
o Appointment changes with timezones
o Appointment does not change with timezones

Does anyone have a clever way of working around this little problem?

That's how it's SUPPOSED to work :)

5pm in Iran is not 5pm in Melbourne.

I live in Toronto. If someone from British Columbia (Western Canada) sends me a meeting invite for 3pm his time, it will show up as 6pm in my calendar. Because 3pm his time IS 6pm my time.

When I fly over there and tell my PPC that I'm now in BC, it will reflect that the meeting is now 3pm in that timezone.

Of course if he calls me and tells me that the meeting is at 3pm his time but does not send me the invite then I have to think about the time difference and enter it based on that. Or enter it for 3pm my time and not change the timezone, which is just silly.

The only way I know of to work around it is to pre-calculate the difference. Or switch the timezone on your PPC to Mebourne, enter the appt, switch it back to Iran time.
