Exclamation SD card trouble on Axim X5

I have had an Axim X5 for about a year now and just got a 128 SD card for christmas. I tried installing some games and music and stuff on the card, but then they didnt work and my PDA kept telling me i needed to reformat the card. Now after the PDA reformatted the card theres this one file that i cant erase. Its labelled: ignore_my_docs. I keep tyring to erase it but it just comes back and its taking away about 10mb of space on the card. Does anyone know why the pocket pc keeps needing to reformat the card or what this file is and why it wont go away?

I'm pretty sure that if you googled for this information you'd find it much quicker than waiting for an answer on here. Anyway, it's there because you don't have a My Documents folder on the card. The built-in apps on any PPC look for data files (documents, music files, pictures, etc) in the My Documents folder, and 1 level of folders beneath My Documents, in internal memory and on any inserted cards. If you don't have a My Documents on a card, the system creates an ignore_my_docs file to tell apps not to look for the My Documents folder.

So the fix is either to ignore ignore_my_docs or to create a My Documents folder and keep your stuff in there.

what garryknight said (except that answers here come very quickly) and:

ignore_my_docs uses virtually no memory. far less than one kilobyte. i think what you are seeing is the fact that all memory cards come with less memory than "advertised."

for example: 256MB, according to memory companies, is 256,000,000 bytes. however, 256MB is actually 268,435,456 bytes.

none of this would indicate any kind of problem with your memory card.

if your memory gauge shows 10MB used, however (as opposed to, say, 120MB available, 0 used), then you have a problem with your card, because ignore_my_docs does not use anything close to 10MB. you will have to check up on SD problem threads and probably your card should be replaced.

AstoundedEEG is correct in every form of his response. I have Resco FIle Explorer and my ignore_my_docs file size is 1K. That is far less than 10MB - so my quick analysis is that your SD card has a problem.

The sector size on his card is more likely to be 512 bytes so even if his ignore_my_docs file were only 12 bytes in size, it would still occupy another 500 bytes of slack space. That still doesn't account for the 10MB, though.
