The most important thing to look for is the processor type. XScale should be your first choice and ARM your second.
It IS possible for some software to be coded to work only on an Ipaq (for example). Even though the Ipaq and Axim might share the same processor. This is becuase the some Ipaqs (and I believe some Tosh's) have a unique identifier built into them that can be viewed by software.
And of course, many people just don't know the difference some there are some developers that will label their software for a Toshiba when in fact it will work on anything.
The best and safest thing to do is email the software vendor if there is mention of specific PDAs. If it mentions XScale or ARM you should be fine.
