New Calendar Program...

Hi all,

I'm new here (this is my 2nd post!!!).

Anywho, I just ordered myself an Axim X3i from Dell.ca a couple of days ago, and I'm wondering what type of new calander software I should be looking at getting, so I can get all the demos ready for when it gets here.

I owned a Palm Tungsten T3 for 2 weeks and I absolutely loved the calender with it (mainly because it looked like outlook, with multiple categories and colours and stuff).

Unfortunately, it had a defective battery, and I had to take it back, and my friend has convinced me to get a PocketPC instead because they're "better" (or something), and then we can share files and play games etc.

He had an X5, and I played with it a bit and decided that a PPC wouldnt' be SO bad, although the default Calendar definitely sucked.

I liked the X3i because it had WiFi (which the T3 did not, and I missed it), and it was quite a bit cheaper then the T3 too (although that had a REALLY whicked screen, and I think I'll miss it).

So, what would be a good Calendar program(s) to try out? I *really* want one that has a color-coded week view, because that's the only way I ever use my Calendar in Outlook. PLEASE tell me that there is some sort of extra software available that does this, and if more than one does, what their differences are and which ones are better.

Thank you all very much, and I'm looking forward to being a fellow axim owner. ;-)

Brian

Not sure what to recommend as I like Outlook, but if you want to try freeware just type Pocket PC freeware into Google and the world is yours, or you could try Handango or Pocketgear or one of my favourites is Webattack they are changing their name to Snapfiles. If you are looking for something particular I have some freeware kicking around I can mail over to you, I particularly recommend Advanced Explorer - I have a copy of the last freeware version I am happy to send to you. If you want a list of recommend apps I can send you one or ask in a post and everyone will chip in.

To get a color-coded week view, your best bet would be to get either Agenda Fusion (from www.developerone.com) or Pocket Informant (from www.pocketinformant.com).

Both are very comprehensive programs which revolutionise Calendar, Contacts, Tasks and Notes.

They are very similar and there have been extensive debates in other threads as to which is the best. It seems to be merely a matter of personal choice.

Both have free trial periods so you could try and see which one suits you best.

Trying both AF and PI is the only way. Both are downloadable from Handango. Both have 30 day free trials. Both do pretty much the same thing and for many of us, the choice is how one "feels" as comparred to the other.

You can also download very comprehensive User Manuals (free) from both sites. They are well illustrated with screen shots and could help you in making a choice.

Okay, I've tried both Agenda and PI for quite a while....both have some qualities that I like, but I have to say that I'm not all that fond of either.

I only ever use an hourly-week view, and agenda's is okay, but all day events look aweful and you can't click on them to see what they are. PI's week view is just aweful and useless. I like Agenda's contacts better, and PI's TASKS better.

What i REALLY want is a very simple calendar like a PALM Tungsten T3. I had one for a week, and that calendar, although simple, was awesome. Color coded categories, click for a summary at the top.

Does ANY PPC calendar program do this well? If not, then it sucks! I love the Axim for all other functions, except Calendar (probably the most useful one), which I find so useless.

Any suggestions on what else to try? Anyone played with a T3's calendar??

Thanks!!!

Brian
