Need Advice From Canadian Users!

Hi fellow Canucks,

I'm about to order the 400MHz Axim, and would like to know if there is anything I should know at the time of ordering. I.e., should I be getting accessories right away through Dell, or wait. I realize Dell's prices are not the lowest.

Also, are Dell's prices negotiable? I am also ordering a new PC from Dell at the same time and when I talked to the sales rep the last time, she said she could give me a break on the $25 shipping that applies to the Axim. Could she have gone lower? (Too bad I missed the rebate earlier.)

Anything else that applies to Dell.ca would be helpful too.

Thanks very much!

Gigi

Dell.ca doesn't seem to have much to offer right now in the "peripherals" dept. Last month you could get a free 128MB SD or CF card, but that's done now.

If you're planning on using the promotion for double memory on your desktop system (which ends soon) it looks like you'll get no deals with the Ax, unless someone else pipes up with some coupon codes available in Canada. Either that or wait and see what the specials are next month....

Chris...

Make sure you get the actual inventory status or your unit. Dell has been placing plenty of orders and can't keep up. I have been waiting for a leather case since November. So I would definitely get the price and availability over the phone. I would buy any additional memory at Costco as it is cheaper and still dropping in price. I have been really happy with the unit to date and I also have a Dimension 8200 desktop as well. The Axim products are coming along and downloads seem to pop up daily. All in all Dell is a good choice and the support is great.

Good Luck.

GiGi,

Dell.ca's website doesn't have much of ANYTHING in the way of accessories listed, but that doesn't mean they aren't there.

Go to the Dell.com site and find what you want. Browse through "Axim Accessories" to get the best info, and look for the Dell Part #. For example, a spare 1440 mAH battery is part number 312-0073.

Then hop over to Dell.ca and enter that part number. You'll get the info from the Canadian site.

Now, as for working them down in price - you can always try!

HTH,

Nick

Never hurts to haggle a discount, worse case, the answer is no. When I bought mine, I was able to take advantage of the $80 rebate. They soon offered the 'free' CF card upgrade instead of the rebate.

I prefer the rebate over accessories...with the price of CF goodies in the market these days, I think you can get more for your buck elsewhere. Costco is 1 place, and I've seen other decent deals out there - one site is www.ecost.com : they had a SanDisk 256mb CF, and a Canadian order check-out line, that calculates $ exchange, customs, shipping and gst...it came out to $130cad all inclusive, not too shabby of a deal.

Cheers.

like it's been said....don't waste your money on the Dell memory cards since they are cheaper eleswhere.

I'll add don't waste your money on teh Dell screen protectors either. If you really want the Dell brand, I'll sell you my pack that I replaced with WriteShields.;)

There was an e-value code that dropped the price for a web only order. Don't know when it started but I used it to order 2 300's in Dec. I checked in Jan and the e-value code was no longer valid. It was posted on one of the Axim forums.
The best way to find out about these deals is to sign up for Dell's newsletter/flyer as the promotions don't seem to last long.

Thanks everyone for all your great suggestions.

Cavuu, I just signed up for Dell's newsletter but unfortunately, I haven't been sent anything yet. Does anyone else have any e-value codes?

I hope to order everything this week since Dell's currently having the double your RAM offer, free shipping and now free warranty upgrade (from 3 to 4 years) for their PCs!

I will try my best to get the best price for the Axim. If I end up getting more than free shipping, I will let you guys know.

Thanks again,

Gigi

try the shopping channel

I bought my Dell 400 from the shopping channel. Sometome they will have a Dell rep on the shopping channel selling Dell hardware.

I paid $629 plus taxes and shipping for the following:

Axim 400 (plus the cradle)
extra stylus
screen portectors
leather case
travel synch cable
and extra 1 year warranty.

On top of that, you can pay over 6 months (with no interest.) Also they have a 30 day money back guarantee if you do not like the product.

They dont usually advertise it on the website (www.theshoppingchannel.com), usually you have ot get the product code from the tv, but you can always ask. Only issue I had was that I wsa not able to get a tracking number to follow my order from shopping channel, since they told me that it was Dell that shipped it out.
