Question Can I sync X3 and X5 on same laptop?

Hi all

My wife has an x5(she syncs on desktop) an I have a x3 (sync on laptop), can I sync both X's on the laptop? for example, to install software or move files only, we dont want to mix contacts.

Thanks in advance, as you can see I'm new to handhelds.

You can connect your wife's axim to your laptop as a guest to install software and move file to it without syncing outlook info. The first time you put her axim in the cradle, activesync will ask what type of partnership (standard or guest). Select Guest and you are all set. You will need to connect the X5 cradle, which I am sure you already know.

You can sync Outlook for both axims too if you set up different profiles. I cannot give you the specifics as I'm on my Axim but post back if you have questions.

Gigi,

that sound very interesting, since I've meaning to reformat or replace the desktop's hard drive we could use just the laptop on the meantime.
If you please could post some instructions.

thanks.

Ok, this is what you do. On your laptop, go to your Control Panel and select Mail. The third option should be Profiles. Click on Show Profiles>Add to create new profile. BE SURE TO DO A BACKUP JUST IN CASE SOMETHING GOES WRONG!!!

:)

Im at work right now, I'll do it when i get home.

after creating profiles I guess I'll be able to import contacts, mail accounts, calendar, tasks and everything else from desktop right?

My network connection it's acting up so I'm gonna copy export files from desktop to media to bring to laptop, can I make 1 exported file containing all of the above ?

thanks

I don't think you need to export anything. As long as everything is already up to date on the Axim, once you create the new profile and sync your data over to the new profile, everything should be all there. Just make sure you sync EVERYTHING you need. That is, make sure all the boxes are checked (e.g., mail, contacts, etc.) and also that ALL items are synced (as opposed to just new info, or from the past x number of weeks, etc.). All of these settings can be found on your laptop ActiveSync. Click on Tools --> Options...etc.

BTW, I'm no expert in this. I've created a new profile once or twice and everything moved over just by syncing. However, to be safe, BACK UP!!!! ;) (Sorry, but I don't know how to make that export file you asked about.)

If you need more help, check out MS Knowledge Base article 312888. I sync 4 PPCs on 1 desktop using Outlook profiles.
