On your PC,

Click On: the START Button > Find > Files or Folders > (and enter) *_whatever_the_name-of_your_file_is_*.*

Even though I think you are SOL, you should also check the recycle bin on your PC. Since the file was not deleted by your PC's windows OS, I'd be surprised if they are in there, however.

There is also a slim possibility that 3rd party software (such as Norton Utilities) will be able to recover the files. The problem here is that unless you already have them installed, there's a real possibility that doing the installation will overwrite the hard disk sectors where the files originally were stored which means they will no longer be avaliable for recovery (a bit of a catch-22 there).

I don't think there is any way to get them back unless you saved a copy of it somewhere else or under a different name.

If you are creating original content on a computer you need to back it up. Syncing isn't backing your data up. As you can see it just makes it the same way in two places. Syncing also only syncs a single directory structure as far as files go.

I backup the contents of my memory cards and memory of my Axim. I then keep that in at least two places. On stuff I revise a lot I add the date or a rev number to the file name so that I end up with multiple versions of it. Even all the backups and multiple copies won't help you if you delete them. The more you have the harder it is to delete them all.

Backup frequently and often.

Try and find Carole Ann for us.....OK? There seems to be a bit of confusion around here.

Tangina: Cross over children. All are welcome. All welcome. Go into the Light. There is peace and serenity in the Light.
Diane: Carol Anne - listen to me. Do NOT go into the light. Stop where you are. Turn away from it. Don't even look at it.
Tangina: You've never done this before.
Diane: Neither have you.
[pause]
Tangina: You're right.

depending on your OS ther are alot of softwares out there that can retrive your data, but the more you use your pc the less likely you will be able to recover them.
using a friends pc search google for your OS and undelete. i.e. Win2k undelete, if you're still in the stoneage and are running win95 or win 98 there is a built in undelete function. just open a DOS prompt (or command prompt) and switch to the directory you had the file in and type UNDELETE in that directory, you only need to supply the first character of the file name.
it may look like this

c:\undelete (return)

MS UNDELETE FOUND THIS FILE

?YIMPORT~1.XLS
DO YOU WANT TO RECOVER?

Hit "Y" and then supply the "M" and Viola you Have My Important Document.XLS back.

Good luck
