Is this possible? So any info. would help. thanks
Welcome to Aximsite!

I believe this might be possible with WM2003SE but I am not sure about WM5. You may want to do a search for this or post a new thread in the forums.

Why so smart? This (soft reset) has worked for many I've relayed your suggestion to!

Nice. Since soft reset, I've heard of no problems.

I do everything with my X50V that I previously did on my Palm T3 (documented here) and now have the additional benefits of:
  • Interchangable batteries
  • Built-in WiFi
  • Full time big screen (and VGA to boot!)
  • Dual card slots (SD + CF) and the ability to use 2GB and bigger cards
  • and more!

What?

The question for the question, "What can't I do with my Axim X50v?

Seems "the sky's the limit."

No resets, all systems go, 1GB SD & 1GB CF cards. Wow!
Modern machinery! :approve:

OK here is a question. I'm looking for a method of storing my digital photos on a portable device, and I'm wondering if the Axim will do it?

For example, I'm on vacaction without access to my home computer, I shoot 1GB worth of photos on my compact flash card in my camera and now I need a place to store these pics so I can free up my CF card for more shots. I know the Axim is capable of viewing pics, but is it a viable option to use a storage device?

Thanks.

Yes... you could get a big SD card and use the axim to copy from CF to SD. (if you have the X5 or X50/51/v axim which has 2 slots)

So it could be done, but if I had to buy other flash cards, I might as well just buy extra CF cards! Thanks for the info anyway.

I wonder why these devices don't have more onboard memory? Other devices like the IPod, Creative Zen, etc. have loads of memory, 20, 30 gigabytes worth, although not flash memory. But with the convergence of different technologies, it would seem a natural for the handheld PC to jump right in.

Yes, you can, but you need to install a flash player. Take a look at this thread:

Dial-up Networking Supported ?

Hello,

I've had a read of the " What can I do with my Axim " and certainly have alot of homework to do !

I've bought Socket's, Cordless 56K Modem with Bluetooth, but am having problems getting it to work. Reading the instructions again, it says " You can use it with most any Bluetooth enabled mobile computer that supports a Dial-up Networking (DUN) Client.

I only have dial-up internet access, not broadband. I've search the " help " on my X50v, but can't find out if it supports this.

Does anyone know ? Does anyone know if I need anything else ie, hardware ? Can anyone offer any advice ?

I've probably jumped in and bought the wrong hardware. Rookie mistake !!

Thanks in advance,
Alex.

Welcome to Aximsite!

I took at look at the Socket website, and it lists this modem as supported for both X50v running WM2003SE as well as X51s running WM5. To see the list of compatible devices take a look here:

http://www.socketcom.com/matrix/default.asp

For help getting this to work, I'd suggest contacting Support at Socket. :)

Hi Gigi,

Thanks for the quick reply.

Socket Support and Dell Support are on my list of people to contact next.

The guy who put all the info on for newbies like me, Chris I think his name was, looks like he knows just about everything there is to know. Unfortunately, in the section he's written on connections, he doesn't mention my scenario, so thought I'd try him out.

I really am very clueless when it comes to this sort of thing, but I'm not afraid to admit it and get a great feeling with every new thing learned / discovered.

Thank you again for your advice,
Alex.

Oops ! Rookie mistake ! LOL !

I did appreciate Gigi's response too, as I said.

Thanks for the heads up.

I actually bought the Modem a wee while ago and the matrix that Gigi linked me to didn't have the X50v on it at that time, as it had just been launched.

I suppose I'm being a bit lazy by firing the question straight in, but if anyone had been through this before, it would have been helpful. I haven't seen such a heading either on this board, or others.

Alex.
