Question questions

Hello everybody.

Reading some post I have seen some terms that I do not understand.

What is A04 or A05?

How can I upgrade from Microsoft Pocket PC 2002 to Windows Mobile 2003?

Where can I found out what proccessor does my Axim X5 has?

Where is it safer to have the backup file from my Axim in? In the CF or in the SD?

Thanks a lot.

Best regards,

Caonabo

Re: questions

What is A04 or A05? These are ROM versions from Dell. A05 is the latest for PPC2002.

How can I upgrade from Microsoft Pocket PC 2002 to Windows Mobile 2003? It can ony be ordered directly from Dell. Around $30.

Where can I found out what proccessor does my Axim X5 has? Go to Start, Settings, System and tap on About. It will tell you the processor and OS information.

Where is it safer to have the backup file from my Axim in? In the CF or in the SD? Either one should be fine. The safest place is on your PC so it can be restored to a new Axim if the current one is lost with the SD or CF card in it.

Go to start>settings>system and tap system information and it will tell you rom information, processor, etc. If you do not have a05 you can download it from the support section of dell's website here: http://support.dell.com/filelib/Devi...ID=PDA_AXIM_X5 if you have an X5 with ppc 2k2 on it. Browse around for the others, shouldnt be too hard to find.

One of the weird things with Dell's version numbering system is that the upgrades are numbered differently from the versions they install. Thus, the latest up grade for the X5 advanced with PPC02 is:
Quote:
Dell Axim X5 ROM Update for Pocket PC 2002, v.05200300EN, A02
File Date: 10/14/2003
Axim X5 ROM Update for Pocket PC 2002, Advanced (400-MHz) model only.
and installs ROM version A04.

The latest available for the X5 basic is:
Quote:
Dell Axim X5 ROM Update for Pocket PC 2002, v.04100300EN, A01
File Date: 4/25/2003
Axim X5 ROM Update for Pocket PC 2002, Advanced and Basic model.
and installs A03.

There is a version A05 for WM03 but it is only available on CD from Dell (for purchase unless you are entitiled it because of the purchase date on your X5).

I think you had to order after late May 03 (I don't remember the exact date but a search in the WM03 forum will probably bring it up). I also remember Dell set a limt on how long they would provide the upgrades for free but I'm not sure if that time has passed, yet.

Thanks Ike... I got my Ax in January 2003 so i'm sure I can't get the free upgrade.... I was hoping though.. if it was free I would get it but I haven't decided if it's worth spending another $30 on right now...
