Worried Auto power-up and ActiveSync

I would like to keep the ax connected to the PC via the USB cable when not in use (guest partnership on this computer)...I would also like to keep it powered off when not in use...After several minutes of being off, the ax automatically powers up and syncs...I have the ax set to shut off after 3 minutes of no use, but after shutting off, it later turns on to sync again...How do I keep this from happening?...The only solution I have found is to actually disable the USB link through File/Connection Settings on my PC...This takes the exact same # of steps as unplugging the ax from the PC and plugging in the ac adapter (which I'm trying to avoid!)...Any suggestions?
