USB link, XP. Is software needed to see "removeable drive"?
I'm looking for the most economical way to be able to access my SD card storage when at school. (no wifi on campus :( )
I do not have sufficient permission to install software, and so I am wondering if I can access the "Removeable Drive" (SD card) through a usb sync cable to windows XP without the need to install software or drivers. I just need to be able to get to the SD card (and it would be cool to charge my ax at the same time)

If the SD drive is on your local PC you can access it using file explorer or Total Commander. I hope that is what you were asking.

if you do not use MS, probably the bonzai is more suitable:
It is also smaller and possible to attach to a keychain (which I highly suggest). search for SimpleTech Bonzai at buy.com, they have it without an SD card for about $20 shipped.
To use the sync cable, you must install activesync. the sync cable is relatively big, heavy, and inconvenient in comparison to the bonzai, even if it didn't need activesync to begin with.
SimpleTech owes me a crapload of money for all the free advertising i'm giving them.

The only limitation with that is its "bigger" than the Jump Drive IMO. But the ability to use CF might send it over the top.
Either way, that is the best/easiest way.
Ever think about changing your avatar to the SanDisk logo? ;)

UVA all the way
besides, if i changed my avatar to Sandisk, I would eventually get banned from the site by everybody. hell, i would "ban" myself. at the least people would mistake me for a Sandisk rep and flood my inbox with complaints/requests.

Better you than me. Thats why I don't offer SanDisk as a solution anymore. ;)

haha, i read about that this morning. i don't have anything against Wake, though, they're cool. I'm much more of a football person anyway. It's #^*&%! Maryland that drives me crazy....

thanks for the response, guys.
I might have to look into one of those jump drives (prolly the lexar, because I only use SD cards, and get free MS OS from college) when I find a coupon for buy.com
I'm gonna order my BoxWave screen protect now though (the cut-out overhead projector sheet I am using right now has more scratches than a cat owners couch) and hold off on their usb synch cable.

not sure if i'm understanding you correctly...you only use SD cards? in that case you want the SimpleTech Bonzai, most likely. the trio is relatively big in comparison.
unless by "MS OS" you somehow mean memory stick (for free?? from a school???), then the Trio will make sense.
both devices are plug-and-play, and USB 2.0.
buy.com has had lots of coupons, but only for purchases $75+.

the MS remark was in response to:

and was based on my assumption that MS = Microsoft. (Moneyless Student would also apply :)
MS OS = Micro$oft Operating system (any desktop PC operating systems I care to have, legally through MSDNAA).
Thanks for clarifying the situation for me
The simpletech one it looks to be.
Still waiting for a coupon (I'm a deal hound- and a darn broke one at that). I found a $5 off $50 in electronics available, but I don't have $50 to spend.
EDIT: buy.com coupon link: http://www.buy.com/retail/coupon.asp...736&dcaid=1688linky

That depends on what serial format you're talking about.

serial format?
my serial on my san disk 256MB is AK0306LQ . I hear china is not as bad as taiwan in sheer numbers.
Haven't run cheesecakes test on it (kinda scared, as I have no replacement)
I actually have a sandisk 128mb card that hasn't given me problems yet, but after reading horror stories, I am itching at gettin a different card and slappin the Sandisk one in my camera (which now uses the stock 16mb card)
I've been strugling internally about whether to put on credit a kingston 256mb SD card and a lexmark 256MB card, and use a $25 off $100 coupon to get them both for $75 atfer rebate (before tax).
