Synching ... fast
I got my Axim yesterday and have got everything working OK, plus my calendar and contacts synchronised. The only problem I have is in downloading and installing new software using ActivSync. I download the program, have my Ax connected and then run the set up/installation program. Nothing seems to transfer to my Ax. I've found files in folders in the Microsoft ActivSync folder on the PC, but nothing that looks like an exe file. What am i doing wrong?

Open the Active Sync window on your PC, click on Tools, Options and check the box for "Files" in the types of info to sync.
Usually programs with installers do not require any further action other than to select the default location, or choose an alternate location. If by chance you just find a generic looking folder in the PPC My Doc folder after you run the installer, tap on the folder or file from the Axim File Explorer and it will execute, auto-installing it's components where they belong. These are CAB files, and you will find zipped programs that extract to a CAB file on your PC when you try to run them. Simply copy the file to your sync folder and after transfer, tap on it as above.

Mike - thanks for the quick reply. I'm obviously just not getting this at all! I've carried out the first task, which is to tick the check box next to Files. That's now being synchronised (although there's nothing in it)
I'm still not able to transfer files from the PC to the Axim. I have downloaded a Pocket PC program to my PC desktop. I then doubleclick on it, and the program is installed. The files are put in the program Files/ Microsoft ActivSync folder on the C\ drive. I then synchronise, but nothing happens. Maybe I should reinstall ActivSync? I have also tried clicking on Tools Add/Remove programs but again nothing happens.

Try syncing first then run the program install app.

Hmm wierd, so when you plug in your axim does activesync automatically turn on? If so are you able to click the browse button and see the contents of your pocket pc? If so try transferign a mp3 or some other file to your axim, just drag and drop it and see what happens.
Oh wait, so your trying to install a program using ActiveSync's "Add / Remove Program" option? What happens if you just execute the pocket pc app on your desktop? In other words you download pocketmusic.exe for the pocket pc and just click on that. Does it ask if you want to install, blah blah blah, then click yes and ActiveSync pops up? This is usually how it goes....

Patrizia, normally the way to install software is to have the Ax connected and a green sync circle (or yellow, but not grey) showing. Now if you run the desktop part of the installation, it should open the add/remove program after it installs the installation files on the PC and start the installation process on the Ax. If you don't have it connected, it should start that add/remove process when you next do connect, but I prefer to have it intall immediately because I have found that to be slightly more reliable in installation.
Anyway, you will get a dialog about whether to intall in the default location or not, at which time you can say no and get the options to install in main memory, built in memory or and SD/CF memory you may have.
If that is not happening, it's not installing to the Ax.

My problem has been resolved! I started to wonder if it was something to do with the fact that i was using Windows XP on my desktop PC ... anyway, i downloaded ActiveSync 3.6 from the Microsoft site, installed it, and then downloaded and executed a Pocket PC application whilst my Axim was connected to the PC (with green circle showing in the System Tray) Hey presto, it worked and I am now able to play Bejeweled (or the PPC version! on my Axim! Thanks for all the help - I am an ex Palm user and so far am happy with my move.

Mike's first reply
Mike told Patrizia, "Open the Active Sync window on your PC, click on Tools, Options and check the box for "Files" in the types of info to sync."
When I open A/S on my PC, click on Tools and Options, there is not box for files. What's the matter?
